PHOTOS: These Iconic Disneyland Statues Just Got a Refurbishment!

Disneyland made a special announcement today, in honor of Mickey Mouse’s 92nd birthday!

Here’s to Walt welcoming guests back to his iconic park soon!

Disney has shared that the Walt and Mickey “Partners” statue at Disneyland just got a complete refurbishment!

While Disneyland remains closed, an artisan has been busy restoring the statue to its former glory. The process took a total of four days and involved using walnut shells to strip the statue down to its bronze roots. Then the artisan had to fuse chemicals to the bronze with a blowtorch, followed by adding a protective layer of polymer and a thin layer of wax.

The Partners statue, which features Walt Disney holding hands with Mickey Mouse, was created by Disney sculptor Blaine Gibson and was unveiled in 1993 at Disneyland in honor of Mickey’s 65th birthday. Since then, four replicas of the statue have been created for other Disney Parks (including Disney World).

At the moment, no one can see the Partners refurbishment at Disneyland, but they’ll soon be able to revisit the Storytellers Statue (also featuring Walt and Mickey) at Disney’s California Adventure, when it opens on November 19th up for limited shopping and dining. This statue has also been restored!
