As you know, a few weeks ago Disney announced that the beloved Carousel of Progress was getting a major re-theme.

Including all the show scenes and new decades to explore with the show’s iconic family. However, a new permit has been released, and it seems like more than the scenes are getting an update.

The current version of the Carousel of Progress is set to close soon on July 6th, 2026, with a projected opening sometime in 2027, although Disney has not released a specific date.

While we are sad to see this version go, the attraction is about progress, and it’s time to enjoy an all-new story and adventure!

However, Disney recently filed new permits for the construction that make us think this project will include a more significant overhaul of the attraction.

The permit states that “general construction” will be taking place under the contractor Southeastern Construction & Maintenance. While on first glance this seems very vague, after some digging, we found out that this company specializes in industrial construction.

Meaning that Disney is most likely completing construction on the actual structure of the building. Since they are redoing the entire ride thematically, now does feel like a good time to also update the structure of the building and any other construction updates that are needed.

Disney has not yet confirmed the exact details of what this construction period will entail. However, we will continue to let you know of any Carousel of Progress updates as they come out.
