The American Airlines Perk You Probably Didn’t Know About

Flying can be stressful, and if you’ve ever flown to Disney World, you’ll understand that. So many things can go wrong that can delay your flight.

Orlando International Airport

If you’re like me and often fly out of a small airport where you might almost always have a connecting flight, it’s even more stressful. That’s because it’s almost too easy to miss a connecting flight if one little thing goes wrong with your previous flight. However, American Airlines is trying to take some of that hassle out of connecting flights.

This past summer, American Airlines made a commitment to “five flights a minute” and multiplying made connections. The airline has started testing new technology that can identify departing flights with connecting passengers who might miss their flight. In doing so, the connecting flight will be held for a short amount of time so those passengers can make that connection.

Initial testing of the system began in Dallas-Fort Worth, with plans to expand it further in Charlotte, as well as other airports throughout the U.S. American has also added more boarding time on domestic flights, as well as rolled out a program that speeds up international transportation and a redesigned app. The airline is also rolling out a more premium experience on its Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Flying on American Airlines

“Caring for our customers is at the heart of everything we do, and we know expectations are high when customers are traveling for their hard-earned summer vacations,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “Whether it’s our redesigned app, improvements to our boarding process or other new technology across the operation we are excited for customers to have a new and improved experience traveling with us this summer.”

So if you have a connecting flight on an American Airlines flight and you have a delay in your previous flight and think you might miss your connection, you’ll want to go ahead and run on over to that next flight ASAP because it might still be there waiting for you. However, if you do miss it, your next recourse is to speak with an American Airlines representative to make alternative plans.
