Move Over, Bob Iger. There’s a NEW Big Name in the Theme Park Industry

Six Flags has been having a rough go of it lately, with the theme park company announcing closures at many of its parks across the United States.

But, a new investor just stepped up to the plate to show his love for Six Flags and to help revive the parks. That’s right, Travis Kelce is a “lifelong” Six Flags fan, and just announced he’s investing in the company. Here’s what we know.

On October 21st, Travis Kelce announced that he has invested in Six Flags Entertainment Corporation as he is a “lifelong Six Flags fan.” Kelce, along with New York City-based investment firm JANA Partners and “other high-profile business people,” now owns around 9% of the company, according to People.

“I am a lifelong Six Flags fan and grew up going to these parks with my family and friends,” Kelce said in a press release. “The chance to help make Six Flags special for the next generation is one I couldn’t pass up.”

An Ohio native and theme park “superfan,” Travis has detailed his love for Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio, on previous episodes of the New Heights podcast he hosts with his brother, Jason. Cedar Point merged with Six Flags in 2024.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Six Flags Entertainment is under pressure to “spin out or sell its real estate and make other changes that could boost the theme-park operator’s stock price.”

The requests come on the heels of Six Flags seeing its shares tank more than 55% year to date, in part because of bad weather and other park issues. Unfortunately, a lot of these problems popped up during the summer — Six Flags’ most vital tourist and annual pass season.

We already know that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Woodmore, Maryland, are set to close this fall (Hurricane Harbor closed in September), while California’s Great America in Santa Clara, California, must close by June 30th, 2028, unless Six Flags exercises an option to extend the lease through 2033.

Six Flags St. Louis could also be targeted for closure.

Excited to partner with JANA Partners as an investor in Six Flags. So crazy to even imagine this is real, but you gotta love it when life comes full circle.”
