If you subscribe to Disney+ outside of the U.S., you’ve probably been using Star to access content from Hulu. Well, something HUGE is about to change with that.

Disney is replacing Star in its international markets by making Hulu the global general entertainment brand on the service. This will bring some updates to the Disney+ app.
Disney plans on bringing a unified app experience for Hulu and Disney+ users, but as of October 8th, you’ll start seeing the two being integrated on the current Disney+ app. This includes some design and navigation changes that will roll out over the next few months. So don’t be surprised if your Disney+ app starts looking a little different.

One of the things you’ll notice is a simpler navigation and design to the app itself. The “For You” tab will be the first screen you’ll see when you load the app, and it includes a new algorithm that will learn your viewing preferences over time. Depending on what subscriptions you have, you’ll also see tabs for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN.
The Live hub will take you to live news, sports, and events, as well as Disney’s livestreams. You’ll also see tags like “season finale,” “new series,” and “new movie” to give you an idea of what you’re watching.

The new interface will also give you better personalized recommendations, as well as a more dynamic homepage with a new video display in the carousel at the top, as well as more cinematic poster-style artwork.
Disney+ on mobile will also change. Widgets will be launching on iOS, and Disney has plans to introduce mobile-first and mobile-exclusive experiences on the app. Widgets are launching on iOS, which will add another front door to take users directly into our programming with one click. And in the year ahead, we’re looking forward to introducing mobile-first and mobile-exclusive experiences that will expand our reach and engage with new audiences.
Next year, a new unified app experience will launch.
Check back with AllEars again soon for more.
