After Over 44 Years, This Texas Theme Park Ride Is PERMANENTLY CLOSING

Theme parks are constantly changing and evolving, and maybe that’s a good thing. We love trying new things, after all! However, it’s still sad when a long-running ride is closed to make way for something new. In Disney World, we’ve recently had to say goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D and will soon say goodbye to Dinosaur.

At Six Flags Over Texas, a ride that’s been part of the theme park since 1981 is closing, marking the end of an era.

Recently, Six Flags Over Texas took to its social media to announce the closure of the Conquistador, saying that it had “sailed its last voyage.” The ride, located in the park’s Spain area, is closing to make way for new experiences.

The ride was a swinging ship-type ride for families and children. Six Flags Over Texas wrote, “We will continue to create new signature adventures for generations to come, beginning with the reimagining of our Spain area anchored by our record breaking dive coaster in 2026.”

Six Flags Over Texas also encouraged park visitors to share their memories of the Conquistador in their social media post comments. Many reminisced about the ride operators and the inside jokes that came from the ride. Fans may be familiar with the yelling contest bit that involved funny phrases as you swung from side to side. That certainly sounds like core theme park memories.
