Summer is winding down at Disneyland Resort amid its 70th Anniversary Celebration, and with kids getting ready to go back to school, it’s fair to expect some closures this September.
A major refurbishment ended in August that saw the Haunted Mansion transform into the Haunted Mansion Holiday — The Nightmare Before Christmas — overlay in Disneyland Park. With that refurbishment out of the way, there are still plenty more on the horizon that could impact your September Disneyland trip.
This September, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure will have a combined 9 attractions closed at some point. They are as follows:

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue — Reopens September 5th
Star Tours – The Adventures Continue closed in late June for a lengthy refurbishment, but it appears the ride will reopen soon.
The attraction lists operating hours again on September 5th, and it’s expected to reopen with some enhanced features!

Rollicking 3D motion simulator ride with a variety of Star Wars destinations — never the same ride twice!
Storybook Land Canal Boats — Reopening Date TBA
Storybook Land Canal Boats in Fantasyland has been closed since July 21st, and the wait to ride again could be a while longer.
Disneyland has yet to announce a reopening date, and, as of this writing, the refurbishment calendar doesn’t show it returning to normal operations through most of September (the calendar does not show the whole month just yet).

Gentle boat ride through miniature scenes from Disney movies, such as Elsa's ice palace, the Seven Dwarfs Cottage, Agrabah, and Pinocchio's Village.
Casey Jr. Circus Train — Reopening Date TBA
The Casey Jr. Circus Train was also closed all of August.
The Disneyland calendar doesn’t show this train ride coming back yet in September (as of this writing).

Gentle train ride around Storybook Land — be a Monkey or Wild Animal and ride in one of the cage cars.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — Closed Starting September 2nd
Frontierland’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is set to close for a lengthy refurbishment on September 2nd.
Like its Florida counterpart, Disneyland’s Big Thunder Mountain is getting a nice touch-up that could last a while. Disneyland has not revealed when the ride will reopen.

Roller Coaster, more turns than drops
Mark Twain Riverboat — Closed September 8th-11th
The Mark Twain Riverboat won’t be sailing along the Rivers of America for a brief time in September.
The riverboat will be sidelined between September 8th and the 11th, reopening on September 12th per the Disneyland calendar.

Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island — Closed September 15th-17th
The Rivers of America attractions are getting some TLC, as Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island will also be closed for a short time in September.
The island will only be closed for three days from September 15th through the 17th.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant — Closed September 16th and 17th
Speaking of short closures, Dumbo the Flying Elephant is also getting a brief refurbishment that will last only two days.
The ride will be unavailable on September 16th and 17th.

Main Street Cinema — Closed September 8th-25th
The Main Street Cinema recently had a refurbishment to make way for a Sherman Brothers Tribute, but it will again close for a nearly month-long refurbishment.
The cinema will be closed from September 8th through the 25th, reopening on September 26th.
Disney California Adventure
Radiator Springs Racers — Reopens September 25th
Radiator Springs Racers will be the lone California Adventure ride refurbishment in September, but it’s a big one.
The ride is scheduled to be closed for refurbishment from August 18th through September 25th, but comes off the refurbishment calendar on September 26th. The ride will undergo track resurfacing and some lighting upgrades, among other fine-tuning.

Personally I think Disneyland staff should close Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and update the ride with more characters. The current ride is barebones and boring and they had the nerve to depict the ride in 1927 during the Mississippi flood disaster. While they’re at it build a memorial plaque to honor the 1927 flood victims and the heroes in the flood. Have Tiana be shown rescue flood victims and serve gumbo soup at Red Cross camps. Also add more critters in the ride. Spoonbill birds, lady butterflies, Reggie, Darnell, 2 fingers. 2 fenner bros, Buford, Lawrence as a chain gang. Spirit of Dr facilier and the shadow spirits and play the song “friends on the other side” at dropoff. Otherwise I’m waiting for a Moana or Pocahontas splash ride.
