Unless you are willing to pay for the Wi-Fi aboard the airplane, usually your flight time is a time where you are a bit disconnected for your family and friends on the ground. You might be able to watch your favorite movie or TV show, but with your phone in airplane mode, you don’t have a way to get updates via text.

However, United Airlines is changing the status quo when it comes to staying in touch while flying! If you are flying soon or are considering your flight options, you need to know about this perk offered by United Airlines.
United Airlines offers FREE in-flight messaging when you connect to the Wi-Fi. There are options to pay for Wi-Fi for even more options, but even if you opt not to pay, you can still take advantage of in-flight messaging, united.com, the United app, and United’s entertainment options.

While more and more airlines are offering the option to join the plane’s Wi-Fi network to stream movies, TV shows, and music options, we have to say that including free in-flight messaging is a game-changer! You can stay connected during your flight for free. You won’t be able to scroll your favorite social media channel without paying, but you can use apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, and Messages by Google to send messages for free.

Now you can provide updates to your favorite people and stay in contact while you are flying. Or you can always take a few hours for yourself and completely disconnect (we won’t tell anyone else that you could actually be messaging for free). However, it is always helpful to know some of the perks you can get while you are flying!

To take advantage of United’s free Wi-Fi, you will need to put your phone into airplane mode and then connect to the United Wi-Fi network. There will be an option to pay for Wi-Fi, but you can get the in-flight messaging without paying.

United Airlines isn’t the only airline to offer this perk, though! Other airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airlines, and more also offer free in-flight messaging. Delta Airlines also offers free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles Members on Wi-Fi enabled planes. Make sure you check what services your airline offers so you can take advantage of any perks. May as well stay connected if you can do it for free!

There are SO many options when it comes to airlines. We definitely recommend doing your research, comparing perks, and comparing prices. Stay tuned to AllEars for all your travel news!
