My Editor Sent Me To Try New Food in Disney World and It Turned Into a Wild Goose Chase

I’m not kidding when I say the moment Disney World drops new snacks, I’m off at a running start to be one of the first to try them all!

If you consider yourself a Disney World food enthusiast too, then you’re likely paying attention to the myriad of new menu items Disney World likes to drop from time to time to celebrate around its parks and hotels. So when my editor was looking for someone to chase down a few new snacks, I proudly volunteered for the job. There was just one BIG problem, though — I never would have guessed it would send me on a wild goose chase all over Disney World.

When Disney World celebrates, you can almost bet with certainty that there’s going to be food involved! From time to time, Disney likes to recognize important happenings throughout the year that help bring the celebration a little closer to home for us Disney fans. And what better way to bring folks together than over food, right?! Yeah, I knew you all were keepers!

We love fun shakes!

So when Disney announced a whole slew of treats coming to its hotels and parks in honor of World Princess Week, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on some of the prettiest treats I might see all year long (seriously, just take a look at the colors on these things)!

With the announcement of these new menu items coming to Disney World, Disney’s usually pretty good about also including information about where you’ll find these new treats to grab and try yourselves (and when they don’t, that’s what you’ve got us for). On the day these treats were scheduled to arrive in Disney World, I just knew I was in for a day of delicious desserts and sweet treats, but it wasn’t quite the journey I was expecting to find myself on.

You see, I made a HUGE mistake in my treat calculations. I went searching for these treats bright and early in the morning. What’s that? You fail to see the issue already at hand, too? Good — I’m glad I’m not the only one. Apparently, these treats are not available until after breakfast times are over.

So when I headed out in search of my first treat earlier than 10 in the morning, I learned real quickly that not all treats are offered at the same time. I stopped by Captain Cook’s, which didn’t have the new Moana cake in stock at all just yet, but luckily, they weren’t the only restaurant at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to offer it.

So, I trekked up the stairs to Kona Island to see what they already had available. After some back-and-forth conversations with Cast Members working there, I learned they were not going to offer the Moana Mini Cake until after their breakfast had ended and changed over for lunch.

The sign!

This could be a while, so after consulting with my editor, we switched course (like any good Wayfinder would), in search of another treat. We headed over to Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort to see if they also were not going to offer their newest treat until lunch.

I was stoked to see the sign out for a Tiana Mint Chocolate Chip Bar when I first stepped through the door. I hopped in line for the counter only to find that when it was my turn, they had just sold their last one. This was disappointing to hear for sure, but the Cast Member assured me that more would be on their way later if I wanted to check back again.

A look in the case!

Let’s recap the scorecard here, Disney World elusive Princess snacks –2, Myranda — 0. Definitely not my proudest work as an experienced Disney World reporter. Nonetheless, I couldn’t let it faze me because there was still work to be done.

I hopped back on the monorail for a quick trip around (and past) the Magic Kingdom, and on back for a return to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Once back inside, I had just met the threshold for the changeover to lunch offerings, but the bakery still had yet to deliver my initial treasure I’d been seeking for almost a few hours at this point. It was just a short wait, and I was fatefully united with one of the prettiest Princess Week treats I could ask to try, and a tasty reward while I was at it!

Finally, got my hands on a Moana Mini Cake

What’s the lesson here? Well, sometimes the early bird doesn’t always get the worm. And, sometimes we have to try and fail forward to teach ourselves (and you) valuable lessons for how to wisely spend your time when you’re searching for new Disney snacks.

You had to see the inside if you’ve read this far into my story

I’m grateful for a supportive team that wouldn’t let me be my own harshest critic on this day, and while it certainly won’t be the last hard lesson to learn around Disney World, it was mine to make and have an experience about to tell you how best to avoid making the same mistakes!

We’re always hunting down the newest menu items popping up all over Disney World! Be sure to check back in with us soon for the latest.
