One of the Most Expensive Disney World Hotels Will Feel Totally Different Soon

There’s something so magical about staying on Disney property during your Disney World vacation. Lots of people have their favorite resort that they stay at every time they visit, and for some, that’s the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa!

This deluxe resort is the most expensive at Disney World and is currently going through renovations to completely change an iconic part of the hotel.

When you walk into the Grand Floridian lobby, you’ll be taken back into the Victorian era. One iconic element is the lobby’s birdcage!

Disney Imagineers are taking the elements of the birdcage and turning it into a lobby bar. You’ll be able to relax with a drink while wandering around the lobby, listening to the piano player. Whether you do this on arrival or departure days, or when you need a calming break from the parks, the lobby bar will be there, providing an extra element of relaxation.

While they’re building the bar, there is a lot of construction going on. Like, a lot, a lot. When you walk in, you’ll notice that many walls are up, and the lobby will feel a whole lot smaller before it opens back up.

They’re also working on changing the carpet to one with “Victorian-inspired borders and scrollwork featuring hand-drawn floarls inspired by turn-of-the-century botanical studies.” New furnishings with new fabrics and accents are also being added, so a lot is going on in the lobby.

While the construction is underway, the Grand Floridian will not be hosting its gingerbread house during the Christmas season. This is usually a staple of the holidays at Disney, but you’ll have to visit other resorts to see their incredible gingerbread and tree displays this year.

As all of these changes are coming, we’re expecting to see even MORE construction happening in the lobby. Be prepared for more walls, more noise (but only during the daytime), and to see more Cast Members working on the areas.

These changes are meant to be finished by the end of the year, so next time you visit, it might feel entirely different! Take the time to notice the new carpets, grab a drink of champagne, enjoy the lobby without the walls, and admire all the details that went into it.
