REVIEW: Why Is NOBODY Talking About This Disney Character Dining Experience?

There are so many ways to meet characters in Disneyland. There are set meet and greets, but you’d be amazed at how many characters can just be seen roaming around the parks.

If you go to Disneyland, then Goofy can cook for you!

Of course, the most surefire way to meet characters is through a character dining experience. That’s why we decided to take a trip over to Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel to have breakfast with Goofy and his friends.

Background

Goofy’s Kitchen is a character dining experience at the Disneyland Hotel where you can have breakfast or dinner with Goofy and friends.

Goofy’s Kitchen

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

Goofy’s Kitchen is tucked away into a corner of the hotel, but there’s plenty of signage to show you where to go, so it’s easy to find. The theme is very cartoonish, so the restaurant’s atmosphere reflects that. It almost feels like we’re dining in ToonTown.

A very Toon feel

Once you check in, you’ll wait for your table, and once it’s ready, you’ll be led to it. Seating includes tables and chairs, as well as booths.

Seating

As we mentioned, this is a buffet, so you’ll find food stations spread throughout.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we checked out the drinks menu. There are a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

We decided on the Non-Alcoholic Frozen Pineapple-Coconut Slushy for $10.50. It’s made with Frozen Coconut Purée and Pineapple Juice. The drink has strong hints of coconut, and the pineapple juice tastes fresh. It’s more of a creamy drink than a slush, but we liked the consistency. It’s a great tropical drink, but we did think it was a bit overpriced.

Okay, so let’s dig into some food — our reservation was during that sweet spot when both breakfast and lunch foods are served. This is a buffet, so we started filling up some plates. Let’s talk about the Eggs Benedict. The yolk was nice and runny, and it had a lot of flavor and was seasoned well. However, the ham seemed a bit plain compared to the rest.

Eggs Benedict

The Egg White Frittata was overpowered by the marinara on it — we couldn’t even taste the spinach in it. The Bacon was crispy and a bit fatty, but tasty. The Sausage was smoky with hints of maple flavor.  The Potatoes were well seasoned and had actual vegetables mixed in with them. The Scrambled Eggs were a bit bland and too runny.

The Chilaquiles had a subtle kick that lingers and strong Mexican flavors. Mostly, though, we tasted salsa.

The Biscuits were a bit dry, while the Gravy was a little lacking in flavor.

For our Omelet, we got everything in it except for jalapeños and chorizo. It was cooked perfectly, and we like that you could basically make it the way you want. Ours had a lot going on, but that’s how we like it.

Loaded omelet

The Fresh Fruit did taste fresh. We got cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. There’s also an option to add some fruit to yogurt and make your own parfait.

Fruit and parfait makings

The Mickey Pancake was just a standard pancake. We opted to put regular syrup on ours.

The Mickey Waffle is a typical Mickey Waffle, which is always good. There’s a nice vanilla flavor. We also used syrup on ours. The French Toast Stick is crispy, crunchy, and tasty, while the French Toast is fluffy, light, and packed with a nice flavor. It’s topped with powdered sugar.

We thought the Worms in Dirt wasn’t just fun, but also delicious. The pudding is creamy, and there are lots of Oreo bits in it with that Oreo cream. Then, of course, you’ve got the gummy worms.

We chose a Mini Cupcake with a buttercream frosting and red velvet base. It was VERY sweet, but the cake was nice and fluffy. The Chocolate Chip Cookie had a good ratio of chips, but the cookie was a little on the harder side. The Beignet tasted artificial, and its consistency was more like a donut. The Raspberry Strudel is rich but has a wonderful fruit flavor. We appreciated the lightness of the Lemon Cake with its light, slightly sweet frosting.

Sweet stuff

The BBQ Chicken Pizza had a great fresh flavor with nicely cooked chicken with the cheese baked in — we just wish it had more BBQ sauce. The Hazelnut S’mores Pizza is a really good dessert pizza, and it really does taste exactly like a S’more with ooey-gooey chocolate and marshmallows. The Chicken Tender was crispy and well-seasoned.

Pizzas and more!

The Macaroni and Cheese was entirely too bland, although kids might appreciate that.

Characters

This is a character dining experience, so you’re going to see characters. Goofy is around because it’s his kitchen. We caught him goofing around and playing with the restaurant’s sign. He’s just trying to make sure everything is perfect.

What are you doing, Goofy?

We also got to say hello to Chip…

Note that because there are characters everywhere, you can’t avoid them, so if you’re an introvert, this can be a little intimidating. But they are so friendly and playful, you’ll feel at ease pretty quickly. This does make things a little loud inside this restaurant, though.

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You are seriously hungry. Do not come to Goofy’s Kitchen without an appetite. There is a lot of food here to enjoy, and you’ll want to try a little bit of everything.
  • You want a solid character dining experience. You’ll get to see a lot of classic characters here, and they are a lot of fun to meet.
  • You want a fun Disney-themed breakfast. The theming here is so much fun, especially with the characters. This includes the music you’ll here during your meal, too.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want a small meal. This is a buffet with a little bit of everything on it. If you only want a small breakfast, this would probably be a waste for you.
  • You’re super introverted. Introverts might feel a little out of place in such a noisy environment where characters come up to you to interact. Some folks don’t like that, and that’s okay, but you probably want to skip this restaurant.
  • You want to meet Mickey. If you want to meet Mickey at a character breakfast, he doesn’t usually appear here. Instead, you’ll want to book the character dining experience at Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel.

Services: Buffet/All You Care to Eat

Overall, we think this is one of the better buffet breakfasts we’ve had, and the character interactions were playful and fun. For $55 per adult and $33 per child, we feel you do get your money’s worth, both in food and experience. Also, if you arrive hungry, you certainly won’t leave that way.
