REVIEW: Off The Hook at Disney’s Aulani Resort

Aloha from Disney’s Aulani Resort!

Disney’s Aulani Resort

We visited Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii to soak up some lovely sunshine and enjoy all the resort has to offer. In the meantime, we’ve also given you a room tour, but we’ve also been checking out the restaurants at the resort. One of those restaurants is Off The Hook, so let’s get to our review.

Background

Off The Hook is a quick service location located in the Waikolohe Valley pool area, near the entrance to the beach. It’s a spot to grab a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and enjoy drinks. Mobile Order is also available here.

Atmosphere

Off The Hook is meant to look like a Hawaiian fisherman’s seaside shack, so you’ll see cowry-shell lures, shark-tooth knives, fishhooks, and ku’ulo stones these fishermen once used as decoys.

There are also plenty of places to find a seat here.

Plenty of seating

Plus, it’s a great spot to grab a quick bite or drink and take in the gorgeous beach view.

Food & Drinks

We had two meals at Off The Hook: breakfast and dinner. The breakfast menu includes a variety of coffee drinks plus some Hawaiian-inspired breakfast dishes like Sweet Bread French Toast, Local-Style Garlic Spam-Fried Rice, and Smoked Salmon Toast.

For breakfast, we grabbed the Aulani Special, which was a Mocha Macadamia Nut Latte. It’s a mocha made with the following syrups: vanilla, caramel, macadamia nut, and coconut for $9. This is a super sweet dessert kind of coffee where you don’t really taste the coffee.

Quick side note: Off the Hook is the only place to get specialty coffees at Aulani before 10 AM. We didn’t get any food for breakfast, but the menu is basically the same as that at Makahiki, which is character dining. So this is a great spot for a quick breakfast if you don’t want to do a full sit-down thing.

Sweet coffee beverage

We also grabbed lunch at Off The Hook. The lunch and dinner menu features a selection of sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and pastas. There is also a selection of beers, wines, and cocktails.

Lunch and dinner menu

We started with drinks, including the Cucumber Lychee Fizz made with Effen Cucumber Vodka, Lychee, and Fresh Lemon Juice Topped with Ginger Ale for $16. This was SO tasty, but also refreshing and cool. It’s one of those light very drinkable beverages. We definitely tasted the lychee, but it was pretty sweet. Our only complaint is we wish we could taste more of the alcohol to balance that sweetness.

We also ordered the Pina Colada with Don Q Rum, Cream of Coconut,
and Pineapple Juice for $16. This is just a great blend of ingredients with the perfect balance of flavors.

Drinks

For food, we ordered the Butcher’s Favorite Burgerwhich is a burger with Butter Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, and Dill Pickle, on a Brioche Bun for $24. The burger was well-cooked, but we really appreciated that it had a red onion on it, which gave it a nice acidity to each bite.

Butcher’s Favorite Burger

Everything on this burger tasted fresh. The brioche bun also levels it up a bit.  Also, The French Fries are SO good here. They’re thick, hot, perfectly salted, and tons of doughy potato in the middle.

A solid burger

Finally, we had the Chicken Bucatini made with Grilled Chicken, Asparagus, Cremini Mushrooms, Roasted Peppers, Basil Cream, and Parmigiano-Reggiano for $29. This turned out to be one of our favorite things we ate at Aulani. We loved that there were a lot of Cremini mushrooms in this, but it was perfectly portioned with the other vegetables.

Chicken Bucatini

The chicken was tender and cut thin, so it really soaked up the sauce. This is something we would order again.

Magic or Tragic?

Dining at Off the Hook was MAGIC. You don’t always know what to expect with a quick service/bar location, but everything we tried here was good, especially that Chicken Bucatini — who knew you could find good Italian-inspired food in Hawaii? It’s easy to just walk up, grab a table, and get a server. Plus the view of the beach can’t be beat. This is a quick, easy, and memorable meal.
