The Locker Rule We’re Expecting at 6 NEW Rides in Epic Universe

Universal Orlando’s brand-new Epic Universe is almost ready to open and we can’t wait!

Anticipation couldn’t be any higher for Epic Universe, which officially opens on May 22nd, 2025. The new theme park will play host to new attractions in five portals (lands) — Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk. With these new attractions may come some familiar rules, including locker restrictions.

Many thrill rides at Universal Orlando require guests to store their items in lockers before boarding the attraction. Features like high speeds, inversions, jerky motions, and other factors can require storage of bags and loose items. Universal requires storage on certain rides in order to keep valuables from getting loose on the attraction and either getting lost or hurting guests.

The Incredible Hulk Coaster Lockers

This practice is fairly common at the Universal theme parks around the world, so there’s no reason to expect it’ll be any different at Epic Universe. In fact, there are six announced attractions that we expect will enforce locker rules.

VelociCoaster Lockers

Up first is Stardust Racers in Celestial Park, which most certainly will enforce the use of lockers.

This coaster experience will feature a dual-launch with speeds up to 62 mph as well as inversions — lining up with established coasters like The Incredible Hulk Coaster and VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure. Both attractions warrant lockers.

Next up is Curse of the Werewolf in Dark Universe, which admittedly should be a much tamer ride than the previous coaster.

This coaster is more family-friendly and by that principle might not require lockers. HOWEVER, it will see you “tear through the dark forest at 37 mph, for over 2 minutes of sheer thrill, racing through a dark foreboding shed with mysterious figures clawing ever so near.” It’ll also spin, and rotations at a height could spell trouble for loose items, prompting a mandatory locker storage.

Staying in Dark Universe, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment is a new simulator thrill ride that could be similar to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

If that does wind up being the case, Forbidden Journey does use a locker system and we can expect the same with this new ride.

Going over to the Isle of Berk, Dragon Racer’s Rally is a unique addition to this list, as it’s more of a carnival attraction than the other entries.

This ride lets you “do aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on two Viking-made dragon-riding trainers.” You’ll reach heights of 67 feet in the air which could be a nightmare for loose items. While you control your experience, it’s unlikely Universal will take the risk and let you bring these items aboard.

Staying in this new land, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is another coaster that may have lockers.

This coaster may have moderate intensity, but it could have frequent rapid acceleration, not too unlike Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Yet another ride that has a locker system and one that could be mimicked in Epic Universe.

Finally, our last pick has a bit of a caveat — it already exists elsewhere!

Over in Super Nintendo Land, Mine-Cart Madness looks to be more of a family coaster and this may not require lockers. The Donkey Kong-themed ride has an existing version already in Tokyo and that ride requires guests to leave umbrellas in a stand, so we could see that same protocol come over to the States.
