Get ready to go on a Disneyland foodie adventure with us!

It’s a new year which means new food at the Disneyland Resort! With Disney California Adventure’s 2025 Lunar New Year Celebration right around the corner, we’ve been thinking A LOT about Disney eats recently, and the folks over at Disneyland must be mind readers as they introduced several new menu items all across the two parks this month!
We tried 10 different items — some new and some returning classics — during recent visits to both Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Park. Heading to Disneyland soon and want to know which snacks are must-try and which ones to avoid? Read below!
We’re going to start over at Disneyland Park with some new and returning items at Refreshment Corner.

First up we tried the new Sweet Heat Lemonade for $6.49. This drink is made with watermelon-habanero lemonade with spiced lemon and serrano.

We were a little scared to try this but we’re glad we did because it was so good! The spice was milder than expected and it was primarily sweet and tangy thanks to the lemonade and watermelon. There is a bit of a kick but we never felt overwhelmed. If you can add a little heat and want a drink with tons of fun and refreshing flavor, give this a try!

Next, we tried the new Birria Potato for $13.79. This snack is made with beef birria and pepper jack cheese topped with salsa verde in a baked potato.

This dish is one of our favorites so far this year. The meat was sweet, juicy, tender, and we were big fans of the flavor. The salsa verde provided a nice cool and spicy flavor that cut through the sweetness of the beef, the cheese was perfectly melted onto the baked potato, and the onions and cilantro provided a nice crunchy texture. Anyone who digs Mexican cuisine might like this!

Refreshment Corner is also offering the Matterhorn Macaroon, which isn’t new and has been found at Jolly Holiday when it was open. This coconut macaroon costs $5.29.
The Matterhorn Macaroon tasted the same as it always has, with a white chocolate shell that boasts a sweet and creamy chocolate flavor. Underneath, you’ll get a buttery flavor with hints of coconut. However, ours was pretty tough in texture despite the good taste.

Next, we’re headed over New Orleans Square and Mint Julep Bar to try the Chocolate Hazelnut-flavored Mickey-shaped Beignets! These beignets come in a 3-pack for $6.49 and a 6-pack for $10.49. Chocolate-Hazelnut Dipping Sauce is an extra $1.39.

The beignets are dusted with chocolate-hazelnut sugar and are ideal if you love Nutella. The chocolate and hazelnut flavors were pretty light with most of the flavor coming from the powdered sugar, and we definitely recommend getting the dipping sauce if you want more. The sauce was rich, creamy, and very chocolatey with a hazelnut aftertaste. We were big fans!

Next, we made a stop next door at Tiana’s Palace!

Here, we tried the Individual Kings Cake for $7.29. This cake is made with Kings Cake filling, green, lavender, and yellow sugars, and Mickey-shaped deco.

Primarily a Mardi Gras treat, we weren’t super impressed with this offering. It was basically a cake donut with vanilla frosting and a brown sugar-flavored filling — OK but nothing special. The flavors were good but our cake was fairly dry. The filling had some crunch crunch and a sweet brown sugar flavor, and the frosting boasted a sweet vanilla flavor. The sprinkles had a lavender and lemon flavor that went well with the vanilla. Overall, though, we would’ve liked the cake more if it were moister or fresher.

Over at The Golden Horseshoe, we tried another dessert hoping for a winner.

The “So M&Ms and Twix Walk Into a Candy Bar” Sundae costs $9.79 and is made with chocolate chip ice cream topped with a hot fudge drizzle, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate bar pieces, M&M’S milk chocolate candies, TWIX cookie bar piece, whipped cream, and a cherry. It’s worth noting that ours was served without a cherry.

Chocolate lovers will dig this dessert! Between all the chocolate candy, chips, cookies, and fudge — there’s plenty of chocolate to go around. Everything made sense here and worked together well. It’s also super filling so we recommend sharing. It may not be worth going out of your way to get, but if you’re in the area and craving a sundae, this is a solid option!

Finally, our last stop at Disneyland Park may have been our favorite, as we headed over to Royal Street Veranda to try the new Snack-size Mardi Gras Monte Cristo for $11.49.

The Monte Cristo is a beloved Disneyland dish so this bite-sized version had a lot to live up to. This version is a deep-fried Monte Cristo sandwich filled with ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, dusted with Mardi Gras powdered sugar with a side of jam — and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! The meats and cheese go so well together on their own, but the crispy breading and jam elevate this to a must-try. Crispy, light, and featuring powdered sugar, this is almost like a funnel cake sandwich.
It wasn’t overly sweet or overpowering either, finding the perfect blend of sweet and savory. The jam was also phenomenal, tasting incredibly fresh with little bits of real strawberry. Dipping the sandwich before each bite is the way to go and we can’t wait to get this again.

We then hopped over to Disney California Adventure and made a stop at Award Wieners to try the Deep-fried Pineapple for $7.99. This treat consists of a chocolate-dipped pineapple fried in corn dog batter.

We’re conflicted about this treat. On one hand, it’s super chocolatey and the chocolate was warm, gooey, and tasty. If that’s all you care about, you’ll love this. However, the chocolate dominated the pineapple and it tasted more like a chocolate corn dog without the hotdog. The added powder was good but didn’t make too much of a difference, and the pineapple just wasn’t allowed to stand out. It’s also a messy treat, so grab several napkins.
We thought the breading had a great crunch and the chocolate was good, but the pineapple and chocolate combo had us scratching our head. It’s also not a light snack so you’ve really got to be in the mood for something sweet and deep-fried. We could see this dividing fans so give it a try and let us know what you think!

Next, we visited Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream to grab the PB&J Split for $11.29. This split is made with chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream, peanut butter sauce, hot fudge, strawberry topping, peanuts, whipped cream, and waffle cone pieces.

There’s a lot going on here but it works. There is a major caveat here though — if you want dominant peanut butter flavors, you’re not going to get it. This tasted more like a Neapolitan split with peanuts, which is tasty, but not what we expected. The waffle cone pieces and peanuts gave it a nice crunchy texture and the fudge went so well with the peanut butter sauce to create a nice thickness, as well.
The strawberry topping was applied liberally and added to the smorgasbord of flavors. Overall, folks who want a taste of everything should get this. It was an explosion of flavor, though, so avoid this if you crave subtly or uniformity. All in all, we liked the chaos of this split and if you want to indulge, give it a try!

Finally, we made our last stop in Cars Land at the Cozy Cones to snack on the Key Lime Pie Churro. This treat costs $6.99 and is made with a classic churro rolled in vanilla cookie sugar with key lime whipped topping.

We were very lukewarm on this snack. The vanilla cookie sugar is the standout and tasted nice, but that whipped topping tasted artificial and way too tart. The foamy texture was also kind of thick and when eaten in a bunch, it was too much. It made us pucker and we could feel the sugar rush immediately. It also has trouble staying on the churro which was another detractor.
With that said, when we got bites with subtle topping remnant, the key lime flavor was there and it had the right amount of tart. The churro itself was also a typical Disneyland churro — so amazing. If you’re craving a really sugary and tart dessert, you might like this, so give it a try and let us know if we just had an isolated bad experience!
