Disney World transportation is good, but it could be better.

Disney World offers a plethora of free transportation options throughout the resort, including the Disney Skyliner. The Skyliner can be awesome as a free and convenient mode of transportation from select Disney World hotels to and from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios — but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect.
The Skyliner gondola lift system as a whole works as intended, but there are two problems you may run into if you plan on using it.

Weather Delays
It’s no secret that Central Florida’s climate can create issues from time to time. Heavy rainfall and lightning storms interview with several activities, including Disney World operations.

Bad weather in the area can cause the Skyliner to stop running for safety reasons. Light rain doesn’t typically impede Skyliner service, but strong winds and lightning are a recipe for closure.

When the Skyliner halts operations, riders may be stuck aboard a gondola for a prolonged period and guests waiting to ride might have to use other means of transportation. If you’re stuck on a gondola, keep in mind they are equipped with emergency boxes that contain water, glow sticks, ice packs, and first aid supplies, just in case. Additionally, you may be compensated with gift cards if you are stuck.

As always, Disney Cast Members’ top priority is your safety so please follow their instructions in the case of weather delays.
Long Lines in the Morning
Long lines and Disney World go hand-in-hand, and that also extends to the Skyliner.

The mornings can be the worst when it comes to Skyliner lines. Folks trying to rope drop or maximize their day at the parks take the Skyliner in bulk and that can slow things down a bit. Families with strollers, wheelchairs, and ECVs need individual gondolas stopped to safely board, which also does stretch out the time it will take to get from a station to a Disney Park.

Disney World’s free transportation is going to be a hassle in the morning no matter what method you opt for, so the best advice we can offer is to arrive early and be prepared for a wait.
