The Disney Treasure’s maiden voyage is set for December 21st, 2024 and we’ve been getting plenty of updates, including a first look at Captain Hook and Peter Pan on the ship’s stern and a milestone update. Most recently, Disney shared an update about some live entertainment coming to the cruise ship!

In an August 30th update, Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro took to the Ship’s Log to give a little bit of detail about Disney The Tale of Moana, a new stage show coming to the Disney Treasure.

In the Log entry, D’Amaro wrote:

“After an amazing experience at D23 a few weeks ago, where we announced the addition of four new ships to our Disney Cruise Line fleet, I had the opportunity to travel to Toronto, Canada and visit the Disney Cruise Line and Disney Live Entertainment teams in rehearsal for the newest stage show, ‘Disney The Tale of Moana.'”

D’Amaro continued:

“This is the first theatrical adaptation of Moana, and I’m proud of the attention that we’re putting on the story – as well as on the culture of the Pacific Islands. This is a brand-new show that will debut on board the Disney Treasure, setting sail for the first time later this year.

This rehearsal facility is impressive. With 52,000 square feet of space, including 19 studios, this facility has been the home to more than 150 casts prior to shows and other entertainment debuting on board our ships. ”

While briefly touching on the rehearsal space and process for the new Moana stage show coming to the ship, D’Amaro hyped up the performances despite the lack of a physical set in the rehearsal space:

“Despite not having costumes, sets, makeup, props or lighting in the rehearsals yet, it’s easy to see that this new show is going to be incredible, and I can’t wait for you to see it.”

Disney The Tale of Moana is inspired by the hit Disney animated film and features some familiar and new musical numbers amid Pacific Island-theme sets and impressive props, including a 15-foot fiery Te Kā puppet that will shed its skin to become Te Fiti when Moana restores her heart.

The show will have audiences follow Moana as she sets sail across the ocean in a Broadway-style musical that “celebrates the courage to follow your dreams.”

Other shows coming to the Disney Treasure include Beauty and the Beast and Disney Seas the Adventure, which stars Goofy and other Disney and Pixar characters as they “journey through uncharted waters complete with favorite songs from such films as The Princess and the Frog, Moana, Frozen II and more.”
