Does Everyone Still Hate This Disney World Hotel Makeover? We Found Out

We all love staying at Disney World, right?

There’s nothing like the immersion you get when staying on property at Disney World, and you have so many options when it comes to choosing which hotel to stay at. Speaking of which, as construction is a constant at Disney World, there’s a makeover underway at one of the Disney World hotels that isn’t going over as swimmingly with the fans as Disney would hope. We wanted to find out your thoughts on the matter! We asked, and you delivered!

We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Has Disney’s Fort Wilderness Cabin refurbishment grown on you?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s go over your top responses!

It Has and I Like It!

First up, despite others’ feelings about whether or not the new cabins “fit” the overall Fort Wilderness “vibe,” a fair group of you are all in when it comes to this refurbishment. (About 25% of you responded this way.)

Let’s take a look at what you said:

  •  “I like the design.”
  • “I like them. Better than the trailers they have now.”
  • “Booked one today for December- excited for it!”
  • “I booked one for December with my DVC points. I plan to enjoy my time at Fort Wilderness, even though I’m part of that “DVC crowd.” Welcome Home!”

You can feel the excitement coming from you, and we feel it, too. Objectively, it can be very exciting to experience the latest vision from Disney Imagineers, so we’re right there with you on being ready for the new.

It Has NOT and I Don’t Like It!

In general, there’s nothing wrong with renovations. However, as you pointed out many times when you’re renovating, you should consider the style and make sure it fits the location and overall theme. (About 50% of you responded this way.)

Let’s take a look at what you said:

  • “No. They’re Awful!!! Not a “cabin” at all!”
  • “They’re NOT cabins, they’re tiny homes with zero personality.”
  • “I think they would be better if they actually looked like cabins, they could of done something like the old cabins.”

We’ll be the first to agree with you that these newly renovated cabins do not look anything like the existing ones. They might be more at home at a campground for some serious “glamping” instead.

  • “I think the aesthetic of being in the “wilderness” has been completely lost with the look of the new cabins and if every mock-up wall thru is correct, who wants to walk through the whole cabin in the middle of the night to use the restroom?”

You also bring up a great point that with the redesign, the overall functionality and accessibility have changed, and maybe not for the better.

I’m Indifferent At The Moment

Last up, a fair percentage of you don’t really have feelings about the renovations one way or the other at the moment. (About 25% of you responded this way.)

The bedroom

Here’s what you said:

  •  “I’m not sure yet, but when I stay there in August. Then I’ll have a more well-rounded opinion.”
  • “As long as Disney doesn’t decide to put cabins in all of the campsites not allowing people to bring their own campers, it doesn’t matter to me. At this point, we don’t have any plans on staying at any cabins.”

If you don’t have any opinions on the matter at the moment, that’s completely fine. It’s a great thing to go into an experience without having formulated your opinions of it beforehand. When you do that, you can genuinely give the experience its fair chance to impress you.

  1. As long as they replaced the cabins, they should have added at least a half bathroom. One bathroom for a unit that sleeps 6 is insufficient. Even the Family Suites at Art of Animation have 2 bathrooms.

  2. They should have kept the outside looking like a cabin. They look like tiny home trailers. It’s supposed to be more like a camping kind of vibe.

  3. The cabins are cute on the inside but I’m worried they won’t match the theme of Fort Wilderness. Also, more importantly, where are the added amenities for these cabins??
