Should Disney Really Be Going THIS Hard on Encanto?

If there’s one thing that Disney has a lot of that they can use at Disney World, it’s their IP, right?

It really feels like there’s no end to the theming that we see around the parks and hotels — the entire Disney World property, really. We’re all for seeing Anna and Elsa and Mickey and Minnie, but there’s one IP that Disney has been going quite hard on, and there might not be any end in sight, which is why we wanted to find out your thoughts on the matter! We asked, and you delivered!

We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Do you think Disney should be going this hard on Encanto by bringing it to the parks?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s go over your top responses!

YES!

First up, you said it loud and proud how much you adore the movie and want to see it get the representation it deserves throughout the parks. (The majority of you responded this way.)

Hi Mirabel!

Let’s take a look at what you said:

  • “Yes! It’s nice to see Colombia in a brighter light. And it’s one of the better Disney offerings of the past decade. If Epcot’s Norway pavilion can be all about Frozen (which isn’t even a Norway legend, but no Denmark pavilion. It’s a stretch, but still Scandinavia), then Encanto can be all over Disney parks.”
  • “Encanto is one of my favorite Disney movies. So I’m glad they are adding some to the parks. Now if they’d just also add Luca”
  • “Yes. It was an exceptional movie with a lot of potential for the parks.”
  • “Of course! It incorporated a culture and also had a family member who loved animals. It will be a great addition to AK.”

We totally get it. Encanto is a fantastic movie full of amazing characters. There should always be a place where every generation can see those stories get highlighted in the parks.

NO!

Next, you made it clear that while the movie was good, it just doesn’t have the fit you’re looking for in an IP to come to the parks. (The next largest percentage of you responded this way.)

Let’s take a look at what you said:

  • “No I don’t. It was a middle of the road movie and I doubt it will have the staying power of their more popular IP.”
  • “To be honest…no. It was a good movie but not one of the best movies. Zootopia would have been a way cooler option. It has ALL the animals in it. It is about animals. Makes sense.”
  • “No, I don’t think Disney really needs to be going this hard on Encanto. It sort of feels forced because that is kind of what it is. Encanto was a good movie and fairly popular, but you can say that about a lot of the Disney movies. So why Encanto? I think the Mirabel meet and greet in Magic Kingdom is good and it was designed nicely, but the other plans seem a bit forced. Character breakfast at 1900 Park fare? It doesn’t go with the theming of the restaurant, which Disney seems to be having issues with lately. Encanto rides in Animal Kingdom can be a bit more natural if it is Antonio centeric, but I doubt that will be the case. It’s hard to tell without a better idea of what the ride is going to be in the new South America area and tying it into the overall animal theming. If they gave us Columbia in Epcot and had it centered around the Madrigal’s showing us the Columbian culture that feels a bit more natural at that point.”

We don’t think you’re wrong and you brought up some good points. If Disney’s not careful with how they add their IP to the parks, the whole thing can feel forced and even supersede other stories.

MAYBE??

Last up, a fair percentage of you don’t really have incredibly strong feelings about it one way or the other at the moment. (The last group of you responded this way.)

Here’s what you said:

  • “Not really a bad thing although I am partial to the older Disney IPs.”
  • “I am not opposed to them bringing it to the parks- I think it could really be a beautiful land; however it surprises me that they aren’t using some older or more popular IP before this.”
  • “Possibly. It’s big at the moment, but maybe they’re jumping the fence a bit much.”

Listen, we hear you on the lack of love for the older Disney IPs. What a world we would be living in if Disney would revive those classics alongside the newer IPs. It would be like having our cake and eating it too with our favorite Disney characters!
