We Still Can’t Figure Out Why This Disney World Hotel Doesn’t Have Elevators 🤔

This popular Disney resort has a MAJOR inconvenience to be aware of. 

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is one of the most historically important Walt Disney World hotels in the resort’s history, as its 1988 opening marked the first time that the company opened a hotel on the property outside of the Magic Kingdom resort area. However, it also has a bit of a mixed reputation amongst fans. Now, we think the hotel gets too much hate at times, BUT there’s one complaint we can’t argue with. 

The Caribbean Beach Resort is laid out in a way that differentiates it from most other Disney resorts. Instead of larger towers or even collections of 4-5 story buildings, Caribbean Beach is made up of small two-story buildings that are grouped into one of five villages named after an island in the Caribbean — Martinique, Barbados, Jamaica, Aruba, and Trinidad — built around Barefoot Bay, a 45-acre lake. 

The issue? These two-story buildings don’t have elevators. 

So in other words, if you have a room on the second floor of one of these buildings, you’ll need to lug your luggage up and down the steps when you arrive and depart, as well as lug yourself, your souvenirs, and maybe even your kids up the steps while returning from a long day at one of Disney’s theme parks.

Now, we should note that the first floor of every one of Caribbean Beach’s room buildings — as well as the hotel’s main buildings, and transportation options (including the Disney Skyliner) — are wheelchair accessible. Plus, anyone with an accessibility issue using the stairs (or who simply doesn’t want to use them) can request a ground-floor room at booking or check-in. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still a bit inconvenient that there are no elevators.
