The major media company announced a 2025 release date for Zootopia 2 during its recent earnings call, as well as expected releases of Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 in “2026 and beyond.” But before all those movies, we’ll be getting Moana 2 later this year…and there’s one big thing that’ll be missing from the movie!

The Moana sequel will be coming to theaters this fall — that’s so soon! The original movie recently topped the charts as the most-streamed film for 2023, so it makes sense that Disney would want to capitalize on the hype.

Variety reports that Dave Derrick Jr. is directing the sequel, with music from the duo of Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, as well as Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina, who worked on the first film. However, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote songs for the original film, is not expected to return for the sequel.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is famous for creating the Broadway musical Hamilton, a show that was incredibly popular around the time Moana was released. Miranda not only wrote the songs, but he was also featured as a vocalist in “We Know the Way” and the version of “You’re Welcome” that played in the end credits.

Miranda has a massive following of fans, and many people online are disappointed by the news that he will not return for Moana 2. The Barlow and Bear duo that has taken over is famous on TikTok for their unofficial Bridgerton-themed musical.

We’ll be interested to learn more about this soundtrack before the movie’s release, so stay tuned to AllEars for updates!
