New Marvel Characters, Food, and More Coming to Disneyland SOON

Things at Disneyland are about to get REALLY busy.

Disneyland

Not only is the resort getting ready to start Disney’s 100th anniversary celebration, but it also plans to go BIG for Black History Month in February — which will bring new character meet and greets, food, and entertainment!

So what will Black History Month bring to Disneyland this year? First off, “Celebrate Gospel” will return to the Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland on February 18th and 25th from 2:30 to 7PM.

On February 18th, recording artist Jekalyn Carr, singer/songwriter Melvin Crispell III, and a capella group Sacred Groove will take to the stage. On February 25th, GRAMMY-award-winning singer and radio host Erica Campbell, along with DOE and vocal ensemble The Singers of Soul, will perform for guests. Throughout both performances, Disneyland guests can also enjoy performances by local community choirs.

Although you can get many African foods year-round, Troubador Tavern will get two limited-time food items: a honey-glazed fried chicken bowl and red velvet Bundt cake.

In Downtown Disney, guests can participate in family crafts and enjoy live music inspired by Black heritage. Lovepop will also have two NEW cards for sale designed in collaboration with artist Anthony Conley.

Disneyana will host artists Ryan Riller and Larissa Marantz on February 25th from 11AM to 2PM.  The two artists will be available at the WonderGround Gallery pop-up on February 26th from 11AM to 2PM.

The Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage will host live music EVERY night featuring R&B, Reggae, Funk, Motown, Jazz, Doo-Wop, and Gospel. Scheduled acts include LALA Brass, Forward Motion Band, and The Rhythm & Blues Brothas. On select weekends, the music will start in the afternoon with gospel music by Sacred Groove and The Singers of Soul.

Over at Disney’s Grand Californian, the Mood Indigo Group will provide live jazz music every evening.

Guests staying at the Disneyland Hotel will get the opportunity to paint an animation cel with artwork of Princess Tiana.

Restaurants throughout the resort will have limited-time menu items from February 9th through March 5th. That includes the Black-owned food truck Wings ‘N Waffles, which will be set up next to Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney.

There will also be a new character and meet and greet for a limited time. Beginning in mid-February, guests will be able to meet Moon Girl from the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

There will also be some new permanent additions. Guests will get to see a new video in the lobby of the Main Street Opera House, outside Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, which will bring “to life the story of the historic relationship between Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.” The video, which is narrated by Robin Roberts, will play between the busts and portraits of the two men beginning on January 27th.

Whew — that’s a lot. And that doesn’t even include all the existing things you can do at Disneyland to celebrate Black History Month, like seeing the stage production of “Tale of the Lion King,” shopping at Eudora’s Chic Boutique Featuring Tiana’s Gourmet Secrets, and meeting Black Panther characters at Avengers Campus in California Adventure.
