“Tale of the Lion King”, a new, theatrical stage adaptation of The Lion King, has begun a limited run at Disney California Adventure in Disneyland.
The new outdoor production is performed on the Palisades Stage, with Pixar Pier as its backdrop.
The show features 18 performers — actors, singers, dancers, and drummers — collectively known as Storytellers of the Pride Lands.
The lead narrator, Mwongozo (Swahili for “guide”), leads the troupe in this adaptation.
They retell the story of The Lion King in a contemporary style through language, song, and dance. Live drumming and singing, along with the set and costumes all celebrate the cultural roots of this beloved Disney story.
As Susana Tubert, Creative Director, Disney Parks Live Entertainment, notes, “The Storytellers of the Pride Lands have come to share this ancestral story of how a cub became a king.”
The show contains new musical arrangements of favorite Lion King songs, including “Circle of Life,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” and “Hakuna Matata.”
The show will be performed several times each day — check your times guide or the Disneyland app for details.
Though this is billed as a limited run, no end date has been announced for this new show.
