In November 2022, Disney made a change that took the world by storm — Bob Iger was returning as CEO of the company and Bob Chapek would be stepping down.

Since then we’ve learned why this change was made, what Iger’s plans are in his two years back with the company, and we’ve heard him speak publicly to employees for the first time since returning. Now, though, there’s an update from Bob Iger that impacts certain Disney employees.
CEO Bob Iger told Disney’s hybrid employees that they must return to the office for four days a week starting on March 1st, 2023, according to CNBC. This information was sent in an email from the boomerang CEO and Iger stressed how important in-person collaboration is for the company.

In the email, Iger said, “As I’ve been meeting with teams throughout the company over the past few months, I’ve been reminded of the tremendous value in being together with the people you work with. As you’ve heard me say many times, creativity is the heart and soul of who we are and what we do at Disney. And in a creative business like ours, nothing can replace the ability to connect, observe, and create with peers that comes from being physically together, nor the opportunity to grow professionally by learning from leaders and mentors.”

Hybrid and work-from-home employees have been a constant at many companies when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but it seems Disney is trying to break that model now. This change comes as vaccination rates are high and hospitalization rates are low.
According to CNBC, other large companies have chosen to have two or three required days in the office for hybrid employees making Disney’s four days per week rule pretty strict comparatively.

It’s the old school management thought that “if I can’t see you, you are not working.” My wife has worked from home since March 2020. She works far more hours now than she need in the physical office. Everything she does is by an online order management system, telephone, and email. Zero reasons for people like that to go back to the office. If people can’t manage themselves, fire them. Don’t punish 24 people because of one idiot!
I think its horrible… most cast who are in call centers can do the same job even better from the much more quiet are .. plus cast will probably show up to work more by being at home doing the same job… more safety by keeping them off the roads as Florida alone has super major backups on the highways to Disney area and its forever on the roads… making this idea that he has a set up for failure for the cast… I believe alot of cm’s will leave the company just for this especially those who have worked from home for years even prior to Covid..
But I will bet productivity has gone down. Really hard to manage people at their house and some people cannot manage their time themselves.
