If you’ve ever flown into Walt Disney World, chances are likely you’ve experienced the Orlando International Airport.

The major airport in the area is the busiest in the state of Florida, and one of the most active in the country. And today, they’ve shared news that could affect travelers to the area.
The Orlando Airport has shared that they are currently experiencing a jet fuel shortage due to weather issues along the Gulf Coast that are preventing delivery.
Ops Update: Weather issues along the Gulf Coast had prevented reserve supply delivery of jet fuel at MCO. The weather has lifted and ships have departed. If flight disruptions occur, airline contingency plans are currently in place. Thank you for your patience.

Because of this shortage, the airport has warned that they could experience potential delays. Due to the holidays, this is a particularly hectic time of year of the airport. During the week of Thanksgiving alone, the airport saw more than a million travelers pass through.

According to USA Today, the airport expects they could have supply issues through 7PM on Tuesday, December 13th. They are suggesting that “airlines should be prepared to operate flights into the airport with enough fuel on board to fly back out.”

In response to the news, several airlines have issued statements and plans. Delta Airlines has acknowledged that the issue will likely be in effect on December 12th and December 13th and offered travelers the chance to rebook.
In a statement to USA Today, United Airlines shared, “Because of a shortage of fuel in Orlando that is impacting multiple airlines, we will add planned fuel stops on Sunday and Monday for some flights from Orlando. At this time we expect to operate our full schedule to get our customers to their destinations as planned.”

While the airport has shared that they have contingency plans in place for any potential delays, if your flight to Disney World ever is canceled, here are all of the policies you need to know. You can also look at our step-by-step guide to see what to do next after your canceled flight.
