Julie Andrews Shares Whether She'll Return for Third 'Princess Diaries' Movie

If you’re a fan of The Princess Diaries, the news from last month probably made your whole year.

It was announced that a third Princess Diaries was in the works, with sources telling the Hollywood Reporter that the film would be a continuation of the previous films instead of a reboot. But, that left us with one major question — would the original cast be returning?

While not confirmed, the news that the third movie will be a continuation of the original series makes it seem likely that Anne Hathaway could potentially be returning. However, what does that mean for Julie Andrews, who played her grandmother in the films?

According to Julie Andrews in a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, it’s unlikely she will return.

She shared that “it’s probably not going to be possible.” Continuing, she commented that there had originally been talks shortly after The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement came out, but said, “It’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run. In terms of us doing it, I doubt that now.”

While not many details are known just yet for the third installment, we do know that Aadrita Mukerji is currently working on a script for the next installment. Mukerji has worked on television shows like Supergirl, Scorpion, Reacher, and Quantum Leap.

Earlier this year, Julie Andrews shared in an interview that she wouldn’t necessarily be on board for a third film, stating, “it’s too far down the line now to go back to it.”
