We have made it to a new chapter friends!

We’ve made it through the Tobey era, and are moving on to Andrew!

I’m going to be honest — I’m not sure I even realized these movies existed until recently. I think I thought it just went from Tobey to Tom before I cared about Spider-Man? I just feel like no one really talks about Andrew Garfield and the hot debate is normally Tobey vs. Tom?

Does that mean Andrew Garfield isn’t good? Are these movies bad? (Can’t be worse than Spider-Man 3 though, am I right??) Guess we’re gonna find out now!

Only two movies to go before ‘No Way Home’ premieres, so let’s get to it!

69 Thoughts I Had Watching ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ for the First Time

1. New Spider-man – same Marvel logo. 

2. Are we getting another origin story? Possibly also gonna find out what happens to the rents?

3. OMG SALLY FIELD???? MARTIN SHEEN??? Immediately yes.

4. Emma Stone? This is already 15 times better than the last ones.

5. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have so much more chemistry than the last couple.

6. Do I have to watch Uncle Ben die again?

7. I bet that guy in the newspaper clipping becomes the villain…Curt Connors is TOTALLY a villain name.

8. Oscorp—- isn’t that the same company from the first one? (Internet says yes.)

9. Emma Stone is effortlessly charming.

10. The guy from Jurassic World!! Up to no good in the 🚫🚫 department.

11. Why would you touch that???

12. Chomp. And now he’s spider man. I like Garfield a lot more than Tobey but even still I don’t need to see this entire origin story again.

13. So being spider man gives you the munchies?

14. Cue the turning into Spider-Man montage.

15. Peter this one-armed man is obviously going to do something to grow his arm back but it’ll end up being a super arm and he’ll be the villain!! Don’t trust him!! 

16. Uncle Ben is a national treasure and now I’m gonna be extra sad soon.

17. Wow I bet have 100 of those lizards in my yard right now if they need them.

18. He forgot Aunt May didn’t he.

19. Don’t defend him Aunt May!!! He deserves the lashing from Uncle Ben!!

20. The Pringles thief is gonna murder Uncle Ben and now Peter is gonna have to live with the regret that he went to buy mediocre chips and didn’t stop him.

21. Thought Peter was gonna Mufasa that guy for a second.

22. So he can’t shoot webs from the inside, but he made sweet blasters? 

23. Oh wow fancy POV, Spiderman.

24. Spider-man needs swagger and Andrew Garfield has it.

25. He’s also a very good actor. His crushing emotionally distraught teenager.

26. Oooh maybe the guy from Jurassic World is the villain? Or just a catalyst to the villain?

29. Her dad is the cop!!! Just like the last one when it was Bryce Dallas Howard! How could I forget?

30. Wow his new arm looks like ear wax.

31. He’s becoming a lizard, got it. Talk about animals I don’t want to turn into.

33. THAT WAS SO SMOOTH PETE WHOA.

34. All I can think about is the Princess Bride.

I know it’s a lizard, not a rodent but still.

36. Wow my heart stopped for a second.

37. Tom + Zendaya forever but Andrew + Gwen is also going strong in my heart.

39. What is with villains in these movies setting up labs in dirty water ways?

40. Floridians must’ve been so confused why this amount of lizards was alarming.

41. Is this the dumbest villain in all of Marvel? 

42. YES GWEN. Use lady problems to your advantage.

43. It’s really saying something that I still like this movie more than the last 3 considering a giant lizard just came out of the toilet.

44. I feel like you can always tell the CGI budget went to Spiderman and then the villain gets whatever’s left.

47. I smell a dramatic fight scene ending coming.

48. The more I see of this giant lizard the more I assume I’m being punked.

49. GWEN IS THE HERO I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED.

50. Oh no spidey!  Oh phew.

51. Dad coming around, you love to see it!

52. I love a rousing community moment!!!

53. Ok the crane thing was cool but lasted a bit too long.

54. Oh no his blasters!!!

55. He’s not alone. You love to see the boyfriend and girlfriend’s dad getting along. 

56. Oh wow wonder if he’ll make it before the timer. 

57. The arm falling apart as he tries to save Peter.  

58. I’m legit sad about the dad dying.

59. Pretty strong power move to get your daughter not to date the guy you don’t want her to though.

61. You could at least explain why you can’t see her Peter!! Ugh almost forgot you were a teenage boy for a second.

62. Good thing she’s a teenage girl and figured it out.

63. Uncle Ben really is a gift.

64. LOL @ Flash in the Spider-Man shirt. That was me after seeing one Marvel movie. 

65. She still likes him!!! Of course she does.

OK WHY DOESN’T ANYONE TALK ABOUT GARFIELD’S SPIDER-MAN?!

(To be fair, I’m sure longtime Marvel fans have had this conversation a million times, and I’m still new.)

He was excellent! FAR better than Tobey Maguire IMO (cue the yelling in the comments.) Sure, Tom Holland is still elite but Andrew did a GREAT job. He had the swagger SPIDER-MAN needs with the awkwardness of Peter. He also is a far superior actor to Tobey in emotional moments. And I LOVED Gwen!!! What a refreshing change of pace from the damsel-in-distress of Kirsten Dunst’s MJ! I LOVED that Gwen was smart and spunky, and the chemistry between her and Peter was palpable.

Even though this movie had quite possibly the DUMBEST villain of any Marvel movie of all time, I still really enjoyed it. Does it crack my top Marvel list? No. But compared to the first three Spider-Mans it was MUCH better.

I award this movie 6.3/10
