“This Movie Made Me Feel Again”: 74 Thoughts I Had Watching ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ for the First Time

WE MADE IT FRIENDS!

tenor/ @spiderbat36

It’s the FINAL FILM I need to watch before I go to ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’! (Editor’s note: I saw No Way Home on Saturday and I’ll never be the same.)

I am shockingly very into Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and I really like Gwen Stacy, so I hope we get more of her in this one! I also hope the villain is better than the Lizardman.

1. Love the marvel logo but interesting music choice.

2. Ok so we’re revisiting Peter’s dad. Understood.

3. Ominous music. It’s clear this pilot is a bad guy.

4. This is just a dramatic reenactment of me trying to send my final texts before my phone must be turned into airplane mode.

5. Is that Paul Giamatti? *checks IMDB* yes. Do you think he just wanted to be in this for fun?

6. Omg Jamie Foxx! Get outta the road Jamie Foxx!

7. Queen Gwen!!

8. The action in these with the slo-mo + the humor is very enjoyable.

9. STAN LEE!

10. No matter who plays her, Aunt May is a treasure!!! Yes I have to keep saying that!!

11. The ghost of Dennis Leary will stalk Peter this whole movie to cause teenage angst won’t it?

12. Spider-Man helping the little kid fix his science fair project and walking him home 😭

13. Do you think when you audition for Spider-Man you just have to crouch a lot?

14. Jamie Foxx will either become Spider-Man’s BFF or the villain. There’s no in between.

15. I do love when the movie (or book) title is said out loud.

16. Aunt May is becoming a nurse!!! A saint!!

17. The Daily Bugle!!? IS J.K. SIMMONS GONNA SHOW UP???

18. Jamie Foxx is a sweet angel!!!

19. Who’s this pompous jerk bag?

20. Wait…Harry? Are you trying to tell me this is a variant of James Franco and that’s Willem Dafoe!!!!?

©Sony/Marvel

21. It’s not Willem Dafoe, it’s Chris Cooper? I’m so confused.

22. B.J. Novak you’re such a jerk!!!! Jamie Foxx is breaking my heart. LET HIM CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY.

34. Whoaaaaaa this slowdown this is dope.

35. This is easily the best villain in these early movies. Jamie Foxx made me feel bad for him and understand his motives in like 8 mins of screen time. MUCH more convincing than Lizardman or Sandman or even Doc Ock.

36. We love a working hard montage.

WOW. Was this actually a really good movie? It was easily my favorite of the pre-Tom Spider-Man films. I’m probably alone in that, considering I didn’t grow up with the comics and I’m VERY late to these movies.

But I just think Andrew Garfield is wonderful!! He’s legitimately funny and has the swagger that Spider-Man needs IMO. It’s like Peter is awkward and nerdy, but puts on the suit and has IT. Plus the chemistry between Peter and Gwen is perfection — which made her death even more gut-wrenching.

Speaking of gut-wrenching, that scene with Aunt May and Peter broke me. What a beautifully acted moment by both Sally Field and Andrew Garfield! I also thought Jamie Foxx was incredibly compelling as a villain. My favorite baddies are ones you can sympathize with and understand where they’re coming from — like Killmonger or even Thanos to an extent — compared to some just super-villain who’s just power-hungry.

Overall, I really liked this Spider-Man movie, and of all 5, this is the one I’m most likely going to watch again! Is that an unpopular opinion?

I rank this one: 7/10.

And considering I’ve already seen ‘Homecoming‘ and ‘Far From Home,’ it’s time for NO WAY HOME BABY!!!

  1. The reason Andrew and Emma’s chemistry is so good is because Emma was Andrew’s IRL girlfriend at the time – I don’t know if that’s that’s the case now. Shaliene Woodley was supposed to become Mary-Jane Watson in Amazing Spiderman 3, and you’ll probably be glad the MCU Spider-Man movies happened instead.
