Genie is Off to a ROUGH Start in Disneyland

Disney Genie launched in Disney World a few weeks ago, but today it has officially arrived in Disneyland Resort!

The process on the west coast is pretty different than what we have at Disney World, with higher prices and different rules. And today, the launch definitely didn’t go as smoothly as it went in Florida!

We started out this morning by logging on early to see what had changed in the Disneyland app. (You’ll need to update the app in order to use Genie, Genie+, or Individual Attraction Selections.) We selected our preferences early in the morning, but the free Genie system wouldn’t show our projected itinerary until 7AM.

As far as Genie+ goes, you won’t be able to purchase the add-on OR make your selections until after you scan into a park. When we first arrived, we didn’t have any problems purchasing and using Genie+, however, that all changed a little later in the morning. Around 10AM PST, we started noticing some glitches within the app. First, our free Genie itinerary stopped loading and we weren’t able to see any of the recommendations on the “My Day” tab.

After that, Genie+ went down as well and many guests weren’t able to make selections. At 10:10AM, we checked the app and it showed all the Genie+ availability was starting at 10:10. Looks like a glitch!

And on top of that, we ran into problems using the DAS (Disability Access Service) system. We were supposed to be able to use it digitally through the app, but it was having some glitches and got shut down. Instead, we were given paper DAS passes.

Lots of problems today!

We’ll make sure to keep you updated with any more news on the Genie launch at Disneyland! So far, things have not been going well, but we’ll keep checking and refreshing to see if it all gets fixed.
