It seems that things may be starting to change for the tourism industry after a tough year.

Recently, Disney has announced more hotels and shops that will reopen in Disney World, and they’ve even posted job listings for new Cast Members. Plus, with new CDC guidelines concerning masks and a plan for relaxing mask and distancing requirements in Orange County, Florida, it seems that vacationers are feeling more comfortable returning to travel. But, there is one part of the tourism industry that may take longer to rebound than others.
According to Spectrum News, executives from Visit Orlando believe that international travel numbers may not rebound to pre-pandemic numbers until 2023. In contrast, they are expecting domestic travel numbers for 2021 to exceed the pre-pandemic numbers.

Currently, international travel is still paused under most circumstances with no certainty on when it will return. And, when discussing the timeline, Visit Orlando’s Chief Executive Officer, Casandra Matej shared that “It’s going to be just a little bit longer road because there are so many obstacles, and obviously from the guidance make sure when its right to open border safely and welcome the world back to Orlando.”

While it may be a bit longer until international travel numbers rebound, domestic travel continues to rise. Travel through the Orlando International Airport has been increasing, with a surge during the Spring Break period, and Disney World seems to be drawing more vacationers, as many dates for park passes throughout the summer are booking up well in advance.
