Which Characters are Rarest to Spot at Walt Disney World?

EDITOR’S NOTE: At this time, some of these experiences may be temporarily unavailable at Walt Disney World.

Regardless of which Walt Disney World park you happen to be in on a given day, it won’t be too hard to track down Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, or Pluto. But there are some characters that are ultra rare and only come out during certain times of the year (or appear to be completely random!).

Let’s take a look at some of the rare Disney World characters you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one day!

Villains

The Disney Villains are some of our favorite characters to spot in the parks! Unfortunately, most of them are rather tricky to find, and the vast majority of them can only be found during the Halloween season, specifically during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! So if you’re expecting to wave “hello” to Jafar, Captain Hook, and Michael Yagoobian (also known as Bowler Hat Guy), your chances are higher in the months of August, September, and October.

Princes

Villains aren’t the only “face characters” that can be difficult to track down! While the Princesses are much easier to find in parks like Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, their Princes are an entirely different story! Some Princes only appear in one character dining location — like Prince Eric and Flynn Ryder at Trattoria al Forno’s Bon Voyage Breakfast, which is currently unavailable — so you’ll have to hope they appear in a parade!

Jack and Sally

There are some rare characters that we’ve been lucky to spot during previous years’ character cavalcades! Most notably, Jack Skellington and Sally were among the easiest characters to see one Halloween in Magic Kingdom during the character cavalcade. But during years when the cavalcade aren’t offered, they can be tough to find. These characters are usually SUPER rare and can only be spotted during the Halloween parties, giving daytime guests an extra special treat.

Rabbit

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger are fairly common, but not so for some other characters from the Hundred Acre Wood! Specifically, Rabbit is one of the more rare characters, but we’ve been able to spot him from time to time in cavalcades as well as past socially distanced meet and greets.

Pinocchio and Friends

The gang from Pinocchio are also rare! This group includes Pinocchio, Honest John, Gideon, and Jiminy Cricket.

Tarzan and Friends

Tarzan includes another crop of rare characters, including Tarzan, Jane, and Terk. If you do happen to spot these characters, you’ll more than likely find them in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Flik

Another Animal Kingdom meet and greet that was once rather common but is now almost nonexistent is Flik from A Bug’s Life!

Br’er Rabbit/Bear/Fox

Hopping back over to Magic Kingdom, it’s a pretty rare sighting to find Br’er Fox, Br’er Bear, and Br’er Rabbit from Splash Mountain. And with the attraction slated to undergo a renovation to become a Princess and the Frog-inspired ride, our days of spotting this trio of characters at all may be numbered.

Chicken Little and Abby Mallard

Remember when you could meet Chicken Little and Abby Mallard in Magic Kingdom? Now it’s almost unheard of to see either one of them in the parks!

Other rare animated characters that you might be able to catch a glimpse of include Marie, Baloo, Thumper, Sebastian, Dumbo, and Angel!

The Future

There are a few characters who might be rare now, but in the next couple of years could become more common! While you might have a hard time spotting Moana these days, maybe the Journey of Water attraction coming to EPCOT will mean we get to see her more often!

The same can be said for  Remy and Emile from Ratatouille. They’re definitely a couple of rare characters now and still have been rare, despite the opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in World Showcase. But maybe one day that’ll change!

Tips

So how can you spot these rare characters? As we mentioned, some can be found during specially ticketed events at Disney World, including Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Others may pop up during the unannounced Character Palooza in between the American Adventure and Italy pavilions in World Showcase.

  1. On my recent trip to WDW, I encountered Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald and Daisy before they were going to their Clcalvacade float.
