NEWS! Florida Among the Top Destinations for Travel This Holiday Season

The holidays have arrived which tends to be the busiest time of year for airports and travelers.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis lifted all mandatory COVID-19 restrictions across the state in September. Tampa Bay 10 News notes Florida destinations like Fort Myers, Tampa, Miami, and Orlando are now among the top 10 U.S. travel destinations this holiday season.

The Tampa International Airport recorded its busiest day since the global health crisis reached its first peak in March. Click Orlando states that the Orlando International Airport is expecting to reach about 50% of pre-COVID levels and “half of the 12 holiday travel days, which start on Friday, November 20th, is expected to see traffic above 40,000 daily departures at MCO.”

Click Orlando also stated that passengers decided to choose Florida as a travel destination due to the lack of COVID-19 restrictions and no quarantine mandates that other states are requiring. The Orlando Airport will also become a new travel hub for American Airlines’ largest plane, the Boeing 777, which will transport guests from Dallas in December.

The International Air Transport Association urges the government to reopen borders to travel while Dr. Jay Wolfson from the University of South Florida notes that the data shows COVID-19 cases have tripled since Florida restrictions were lifted in September.
