When we’re feeling nostalgic, we like to check out the Disney Channel Original Movies (or, DCOMs, for short) available to stream on Disney+!
If you’ve already burned through all of the classics, or you’re just looking for something fresh to watch, we have good news. The very first DCOM is getting a modern remake!
The “original” Disney Channel Original Movie, Under Wraps, premiered in 1997. The film follows three kids who find a mummy in the basement of a “dead” man’s house. The mummy is brought to life by the moonlight and, of course, adventure ensues.
And Deadline reports that the cast has now been selected for a remake of Under Wraps! The movie will star Christian J. Simon, Malachi Barton, Sophia Hammons, and Phil Wright. The plot of the re-imagined movie will be similar to the original film, exploring the unlikely friendship between the three children and the mummy.
Lauren Kisilevsky, vice president, Original Movies, Disney Channel, commented on the upcoming remake, “‘Under Wraps’ introduced a generation of kids and families to what has become the backbone of our programming across the globe: Disney Channel Original Movies. We are excited to welcome our audience back into the Halloween spirit and celebrate the unlikely friendship between three kids and a mummy as they embark on an adventure and ultimately save the day.”
Production is set to begin in Vancouver this month, and the film is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney Channel in 2021.
