As the theme park industry in Central Florida continues its long recovery from their temporary closures, companies have had to make the difficult decision to layoff a portion of their employees.

Already, Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld have each begun the process of laying off workers, with the most recent being Disney’s drastic cut of 28,000 Cast Members across their Parks, Experiences, and Products business segment.
According to WESH 2 News, Universal Orlando will be issuing additional layoffs on top of the layoffs that were made over the summer. At this time, we do not know the exact number of layoffs that are included in this most recent round.

The statement from Universal reads, “We continue to manage our business through challenging times and we again have made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce as we position our business for the future. These positions are throughout our organization – but do not include our hourly workers. We continue to be aware of the impact this will have on those affected by this action and we are working to support them through this process.”

A number of resources have been made available to those affected by any and all layoffs in Central Florida. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings announced that later this month the Orange County CARES Individuals and Family Assistance Program will reopen applications for all county residents.

We will continue to monitor any and all announcements made in the theme park industry when it comes to layoffs. If you are interested in helping those impacted by the recent Disney layoffs, you can click our link below for resources!
