Tokyo Disneyland has had an exciting past few months after reopening in July. On top of the plans to open new entertainment and expansions soon, there are also THREE new attractions that just opened in the parks last week!

However, the theme park industry isn’t the only reason why tourists travel to Japan. And, the government has started to weigh its options when it comes to reopening the country again moving forward.
According to the Japan Times, government officials are looking into ways to lift the foreign tourist entry ban as soon as next summer. Since the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed until summer 2021, tourists are important to the country’s economy in the near future.

The government is looking to set up a smartphone app that asks tourists to provide health information whenever they obtain their visas at Japanese consulates at home. Foreign tourists must acquire certification that says they tested negative and buy private medical insurance in case of treatment while they’re abroad.

Visitors will be allowed to watch the Olympic and Paralympic games if they test negative during another examination when entering Japan. Although tourists are asked to report health conditions on the app for 14 days after entering the country, they will most likely be exempt from self-quarantine.
Japan is also wanting to put public health centers in Tokyo and exclusive consultation centers in place for any visitors who have possibly been infected. Japan is hoping to start these new measures as early as spring 2021 with plans drawn up in January, followed by a trial basis in April. The different stages and plans have been termed the “journey” by officials working on foreign tourist entry.

While there are still many issues to consider, Japan is watching the current health crisis before making an official decision. However, the ban on business travelers has been lifted at this time. Japan has stated that they hope to have tourists back in the country by the end of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics as an encouragement for other visitors to travel from abroad.
