We got pretty excited during last year’s D23 when Disney first announced its upcoming animated film Raya and the Last Dragon. At the time, though, we really didn’t know much about the movie.
We did, however, get a general idea about the story, which focuses on a lone warrior from the kingdom of Kumandra who teams up with a band of misfits to find the Last Dragon. Inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia, Disney explained it best as a movie about community and hope.
That enough sold us on the movie, and we were getting pretty pumped to catch it in theaters this year. Unfortunately, Raya and the Last Dragon was one of many Disney movies delayed this year: its release date got pushed back to March 12th, 2021.
In the meantime, Entertainment Weekly, has offered us a first look image from Raya and the Last Dragon, which stars Star Wars heroine Kelly Marie Tran. This is the first fully-rendered CG image of the film. Check it out:
Doesn’t it look gorgeous? It’s also an important film because it’s the first for Disney inspired by Southeast Asia. We’re sure looking forward to learning more about Raya and the Last Dragon and can’t wait to see it on the big screen. We’ll be sure to keep you all updated as more details about the movie come in.
