If You Didn’t Eat these Snacks, Did You REALLY Go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

Ever since the first pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, I’ve been enamored with those magical treats Harry and his friends enjoy. From the Hogwarts Express Trolley to Honeydukes, wizards have no shortage of spellbinding snacks to enjoy.

Ah, to be a wizard with no calorie restrictions…

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is the place to go if you want to try these magical munchies for yourself.

Here are five (and change!) snacks you’ve got to try on your next visit to the Wizarding World.

Butterbeer

Available in cold and slightly less cold.

So let’s talk about the erumpet in the room. Butterbeer is amazing. It’s creamy, sweet, lightly spiced, and the most perfect theme park concoction ever created. If you don’t try this during your visit, you didn’t visit. The issue is that there are so many ways to enjoy butterbeer, it would literally fill this entire article! So here’s a brief primer on how to best enjoy that butterscotch goodness.

Try it in a mug, and then pretend the soda at home can remotely compare.

Butterbeer flows abundant in the Wizarding World. In Hogsmeade, you can find it at the Three Broomsticks, The Hog’s Head, and two dedicated booths at either end of the land. Diagon Alley sells it at the Leaky Cauldron, The Hopping Pot, and the Fountain of Fair Fortune.  There’s a big debate between the merits of classic butterbeer (a cream soda concoction) vs frozen (a decadent cream-topped slush). Both are fantastic, but the real champ is the limited edition hot butterbeer served during the fall and winter months. Not only is it book accurate, but you’ll be craving it for months to come.

Butterbeer Ice Cream

Of course, Butterbeer doesn’t just come in beverage form. If you’re at Diagon Alley, drop in to Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor to get Butterbeer Soft Serve. This soft and creamy treat is a worthy rival to the vaunted Dole Whip. If you’re eating a meal at the Three Broomsticks, try the Butterbeer Potted Cream. Served in a mason jar, this rustic treat is the perfect conclusion to your meal. Finally, be sure to check Honeydukes and Sugarplums for Butterbeer flavored fudge or whatever new Butterbeer treats they’ve cooked up. Just try the Butterbeer. Seriously.

This dessert is Pinterest worthy. You wouldn’t even guess it came from a magical pub from a children’s book.

Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans

When they say every flavor, they mean EVERY flavor.

Going from something delicious to something… that depends, honestly. You might have seen similar beans at Target or other retailers, but not only are these bigger, they don’t come with a flavor guide. You’re flying blind with this one, but that’s part of the fun! One highlight; there’s even a Butterbeer bean hiding in those boxes! Just don’t get it mixed up with the earwax one…

Cauldron Cake

Cauldron Cake

What’s better than a sweet treat? A sweet treat with a souvenir! These decadent cupcakes are big enough for sharing and topped with vibrant frosting “flames”, but the real star is the cauldron itself! It’s completely reusable and comes with a recipe for making your own cakes at home! Get some for your whole family, save the cauldrons, and prepare for a delicious Halloween treat!

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Get your Sticky on at the Leaky Cauldron!

Over at the Leaky Cauldron is a British classic.  Don’t let the name fool you, American readers; this treat includes thick and rich cake! Topped with dates and chopped nuts, this decadent delight sticks to your fork and your ribs and comes served a la mode. It might not be a Wizarding World exclusive, but that’s not a bad thing. You’ll be thankful us muggles can make this treat, too, after your first bite.

Pumpkin Juice

Pumpkin Juice

One thing that causes a bit of cognitive dissonance in Hogsmeade is the snowy landscape. While snowy days are iconic in the books and movies, no amount of magic can cool down an Orlando summer day. However, you can capture the spirit of cooler times with a bottle of ice-cold pumpkin juice. Packed with pumpkin spice, this autumnal cider will bring your mind back to the cool days of fall and winter, distracting you momentarily from that horrible sunburn you’re probably getting from waiting in line for Hagrid’s. It’s no Butterbeer, but if you’re the type who lives for pumpkin spice, you deserve to bring a few bottles home; this drink is both potable and portable!

All the Rest

Do I really have to stop at just five? They’re all so good…

There are many other delicious treats at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Fizzing Whizbees, Chocolate Frogs, Edible Dark Marks… and the dreaded U-No-Poo.
