This is the Attraction You’re Looking For: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland to Use Virtual Queue as Needed

Resistance fighters, listen up! We’re about one week away from the opening of the highly-anticipated Rise of the Resistance attraction in Disneyland.

The Disney World version of this Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ride opened in December, and it has been wildly popular. So popular in fact, that a virtual queue has been implemented to make sure that guests have the most pleasant experience possible while waiting for their chance on Rise. We’ve known for some time that a similar system will be put in place to manage the crowds for the opening of the Disneyland version.

The attraction opens one week from today on January 17 and is expected to draw massive crowds to Disneyland Park. Luckily, the virtual queue will be used as-needed starting on opening day. It is expected it will definitely be needed, so here’s a refresher on how to get in the virtual queue so you can join the resistance!

Rise of the Resistance Pre-Show

Guests will be able to find a module called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — Access by Boarding Group in their Disneyland app. From there, guests can request a group after they have entered Disneyland Park. You can also join a group with help from Cast Members at select locations in the park.

As of right now Disney is stating that the queue will not be available prior to the published opening time of the park. At Disney World, Hollywood Studios routinely opened early to accommodate crowds after the opening of Rise, but it looks like that policy will not be observed at Disneyland (and it was revoked at Disney World, too).

Once you’ve claimed a spot in a Boarding Group, you’re free to wander around the park until your group is called through a push notification. You can also check the status of the Boarding Groups in the Disneyland app or on signs around the park.

Remember, a spot in a Boarding Group does not mean that you’re guaranteed a spot on the ride. Rise of the Resistance is subject to capacity limits, and as we saw in Disney World, technical difficulties could be a little bit of an issue.

Overall though, if you want a chance to ride Rise of the Resistance in the first few days of its Disneyland opening, you’ll want to have the Disneyland app downloaded and be prepared to get to the park prior to opening. Even though guests can’t join groups before open, we expect crowds will gather early anyway.
