Review of Port Orleans Riverside Resort (Moderate Resort)

My family has been coming to this resort for 16 years and have always been thrilled with our experience. Unfortunately, we've noticed in the past couple years that the accommodations are slipping. While this is a 'moderate' priced hotel, it is still a high-end price, and has always felt worth it, until the past couple years. This hotel is ALWAYS overcrowded, and we've been to this hotel at all different season over these past 16 years. Its always a push/shove to obtain a meal, particularly breakfast. Housekeeping is the worst I've seen in any average 'chain' hotel. In our 12 day stay, I don't believe the sheets were once changed, even though I requested it. the rooms weren't vaccummed once. the grounds had garbage in the same location for our entire stay. By anyone's standards, that's unacceptable; but for Disney? Extremely disappointing. The resort is simply too overcrowded to enjoy. Transportation is a joke. Worst on any Disney property. The promise of "buses every 20 minutes" simply doesn't happen at POR. This resort should NEVER be allowed at be 'at capacity, as they simply aren't staffed for it, nor are the pools/accommodations large enough for it. We have been loyal customers, but I believe our stays here have come to an end, sadly.

Pros:

outdoor movies, pool activities, friendly staff

Cons:

overcrowded, cafeteria too small for resort, transportation

We enjoyed the arborio rice cone appetizer and the huge bowl of bean soup with plenty of pasta for our appetizers. The rigatoni had good flavors and crunchy bacon-like bits, but perhaps not enough sauce on it. The bistecca pizzaiola is a weirdly-shaped slab of sirloin steak, somewhat chewy, but with a small dab of a good sauce and some nice roasted potatoes and veggies. The amarena sundae was a disappointment, as there were very few cherries and little cherry sauce, and the chocolate ice cream was too intense. It's a cute space with cool theming and a more intimate feel than other Disney Springs eateries, but you have to trek "backstage" to use the restrooms at The Edison restaurant.

Pros:

Good food

Cons:

Route to restrooms

Review of The Edison

While the decor is interesting, it is very dark (black is predominant color, and very loud. The background music is so loud people were talking at the tops of their voices to hear each other. But the worst of the problem was the fact that the restaurant was filthy. In my menu, which is in a half-sized 3-ring binder, several pages were covered with dried on food. When I showed the server, she brought me a new one. A few minutes later the manager came over to tell me he was going to have his “girls” go through the menus to see if any needed cleaning ---- First, “girls?” Second, this should be done before a menu is given to a diner. In addition, there was what looked like chunks of food or dry dog food on the floor. Not under the table, where someone might have dropped a bite, but out on the floor, as if there had been a food fight that had never been cleaned up and there was what looked like gum stuck to the floor.

In addition, the food was just average. I tried The Edison’s signature, supposedly patented, burger – known as the “Edison.” It comes on a grilled bun (the top of which was burned) with lettuce (1/2 leaf), tomato (one slice so thin you can see through it), cheese (possibly a quick spray), bacon (so overdone/leathery I could not cut it with a knife), pickle slices (just as thin as tomato), special sauce, and fried onion strings (about a teaspoonful). The burger comes with French fries, mine were over cooked, a “house made” pickle slice and a whole pepper which the server warned me was very hot.

In all, unless you just want to spend the evening drinking (children are not allowed in after 11:00 pm) I would avoid this place at all costs.

Pros:

Arrived at The Edison on time for reservation and was seated very quickly and the staff is very friendly.

Cons:

Restaurant filthy, menus disgusting, and food at best average

My family and I ate here the week of April 24, 2018. It's probably our fourth time eating here and the drive-in cars and old movies never disappoint. Happy that on this trip they added a vegetarian option--the caprese sandwich. Also, the milkshakes was the best I had during the whole trip--try the Oreo one! Our server did a great job fulfilling the requests of the picky eaters in our party--my daughter who wants salad with no bacon and extra dressing, and my parents who wanted burgers with nothing on them but everything on the side. Great place to relax out of the sun!

Pros:

cool theme, great milkshakes

We ate at Satuli Canteen the week of April 23, 2018. My parents created a bowl with chicken, which they loved. My daughter and I had tofu bowls. As vegetarians, we were happy that this restaurant had a veggie option. My daughter is a very picky eater, but liked her bowl a lot--especially the onion chimichurri sauce. She didn't like my black bean vinaigrette that much, but I was fine with it. We also sampled the blue mousse and the dark chocolate cake. Everyone agreed the blue mousse was the favorite as it was refreshing on a hot day. We'll definitely go back!

Pros:

well-organized space, good healthy food

Cons:

dark interior

Review of Trattoria al forno - Dinner

My family and I ate here the week of April 24, 2018. We have eaten at this restaurant many times dating back to when it was Spoodles and then Kouzzina. The first year of Trattoria we had a much more positive experience, partly due to the fact that the menu listed a vegetarian option. With no more vegetarian options, my daughter and I had pizza, which was good. However, the waiter was clearly nervous and/or inexperienced. We got the wrong drink order and when he fixed it, he returned with glasses only half-full. He even gave my father only a half-full cup of coffee. Then he got the check wrong, too! The portions were small for the price paid, and when you tack on the not-so-great service, we likely won't be returning. It's a shame, because it's such a convenient spot for those staying at the Boardwalk. (For better tiramisu and zeppole, try Via Napoli in Epcot)

Pros:

good location

Cons:

expensive food, negative experience with waitstaff

Review of 1900 Park Fare Character Dinner

We had the do and there were 5 "adults" in our party. We celebrated a bday. The salad options were limited for greens and other veggies. The potato salad and grain salad were good. The strawberry soup is yummy. The Mongolian beef was good, the rib eye was good but the crust seasonings weren't to my personal liking but it was very flavorful. There were muscles, butter chicken, pork marsala, mashed potatoes, rice, string beans, everything was free and well stocked. The characters are interactive which makes it fun. Cinderella was quiet we could hardly hear what she was saying but the restaurant wasn't loud. Everyone else we could hear and interact with. We enjoy this meal and come yearly because of the characters. The food changes so I wouldn't say I come for the food but the food is always good. It's definitely worth 1ts credit.

Pros:

characters, not rushed

Cons:

price if oop

We had an ADR an were seated promptly. The hostess went to seat us but couldn't find an open table so we went to a different section. We were a party of 5 at a 4 top. We had 2 kobe burgers, one pulled pork sandwich, one turkey picnic, and one mac and cheese burger. We had a chocolate shake, 2 waters, a diet and an iced tea. We all agreed we would order the items again. There was nothing outstanding but it was decent. It was loud as always but there were cheerleaders adding to it so that was terrible. The atmosphere we all agree we liked the old way better. Probably won't go again for a few years because there are quieter restaurants with better reviews we could go to instead.

Pros:

indifferent

Cons:

loud
