Ate here the week of June 2-9. Husband had Shogun combination and I had the Japanese Curry Udon. This was our second favorite meal of the week (behind Tusker House and ahead of Biergarten). We went between lunch and dinner and had no trouble finding a table inside. Cannot wait to return in the fall and dine here again.

Pros:

Location, seating, atmosphere, selections

Cons:

Can get crowded at lunch (like every other place)

Review of Pop Century Resort (Value Resort)

We stayed at POP for the first time June 2-9, 2013. I was a little nervous since we have stayed at POFQ on our last two trips and because our prior experience with a value was All-Star Movies and I did not like it. POP was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

The rooms were clean and Mousekeeping was fantastic -- a towel animal every single day. We had two teens with us who were not the best about getting up and getting out of the room in a timely manner and Mousekeeping was very understanding and accommodating! The bathrooms are showing their age a little, so a refurb would be nice.

Aside from one long wait for a Magic Kingdom bus, the bus service was exemplary -- the best I have ever experienced in our four prior trips. I like the queue setup at the POP better than the single shelter at POFQ, so there is no confusion about boarding order. There are many mature trees and garden areas that give POP a lot of charm and add to the "smaller" feel that the resort has, despite its large size. We had a non-preferred location overlooking the lake, and it was still very close to the main building and pools.

Now the food court. I read online -- and heard it live and in person from other guests -- that the food court has been ruined. Having no prior experience with this food court, I can only offer my first-timer's experience. The food was pretty good -- the pork loin/spaetzel/cabbage combination was so good I had it twice. There was a great deal of confusion, especially at the burger station. I had two orders filled incorrectly here as well as receiving an ice cold hamburger. There is no ticket tracking, so you are relying on the CMs to communicate with each other and that was not going very well. There were also two CMs who we observed on different occasions causing trouble for other CMs by questioning their work, arguing, or just standing around watching other people work. The last night we were there, one of these CMs was reprimanded by an upper level CM. I think the confusion over orders will disappear over time, but these two CMs were definitely causing more trouble than necessary. Also only two of the three drink stations were open the whole time we were there and one of the dining areas closed off even though the food court was overflowing. Lots of choices, though, and fun (enjoy the dancing!)

Pros:

Seems smaller than it is, nice grounds, good bus service, great Mousekeeping

Cons:

Food court confusion, food court staff, bathroom refurbs needed

Review of La Hacienda de San Angel

We LOVE Mexican food - having a few misses at San Angel recently, we decided to give up the atmosphere across the street to try La Hacienda.
We were seated very close to our ADR time. The atmosphere was underwhelming (probably because I was comparing it to San Angel - which isn't fair).
DH and I treated ourselves to a couple of Margaritas. I had the Mango Blueberry Basil - it was tasty enough..but not nearly as interesting as I thought it would be..basically a decent regular margarita with a few blueberries and bits of basil leaves floating in it. DH had the Orange Mango Fire and did not like it at all. Which is odd because he loves margaritas and all things spicy. This just had a not-great-flavor.
On to the food:

I had the Tacos de Camarones (fried shrimp) - Very good. I enjoyed the flavors but found myself wishing they were not deep fried shrimp about 1/2 through. DH had the Pescado a la Talla (tilapia) and did not enjoy it at all - it was super fishy. I had a few bites and totally agree. DD11 is a Disney Adult - nothing appealed to her so they were kind enough to offer and chicken/cheese quesadilla. It was a very nice gesture but unfortuately it was ice cold when it arrived. DS9 had the kids chicken tacos and liked them.

Dessert was a fail (and we LOVE our desserts so that is saying something) - We had the apple pastry with caramel sauce (which is a Pepperidge Farm apple turnover) - The chocolate custard (which was fine) and the sweet corn ice cream (which was sprinkled with popcorn and chili powder and was just plain nasty).

We will not be adding this to our ADR list anytime soon, if at all. 🙁

Review of Port Orleans French Quarter (Moderate Resort)

Our family stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter May 21 and 22, 2013. We had two connecting rooms in building 4, on the third floor.

Overall the resort is nice. The landscaping is very mature and well maintained. My two youngest boys enjoyed the main pool with the dragon side. My oldest, who is 14, thought the pool was lame because it is shallow. The gift shop is nice and well stocked with food, snacks and souvenirs. We ate at the food court one night and I could not recommend this counter service restaurant. No one in our party of 5 liked their meals.

POFQ is a nice resort and I would stay there again.

Pros:

Rooms, Nice Landscaping/Grounds

Cons:

Food Court

Son loved the meatball sandwich and we liked being able to refill our drinks on our own since it wasn't a Disney owned restaurant. The prices were more reasonable than the Disney owned restaurants.

Pros:

good food for a good price

Cons:

seating availability

The chocolate cake at the bakery is WONDERFULL. Very moist and tasty. Got a cinnamon roll for breakfast, it looks good but is very hard on the outside and dry on the inside. DS and grandparents got the whole pepperoni pizza twice and it was very tasty and the best price we found for a whole pizza throughout Disney. I had the create your own pasta on our last day, it was okay, I think less noodles would taste better and it would seem like there would be enough sauce for all the noodles. DH got the Turkey dinner one night and I got the ham dinner one night, DH said his had good flavor, mine was okay. DH also had the mufalatta twice and said it was good. Wasn't too crowded the times we ate but I went there a couple of times to refill the mugs and it was packed.

Pros:

variety, chocolate cake (yum)

Cons:

depending on the time can be busy

Booked a standard room, got a garden view corner room with a Mickey towel head to greet us (room 8778), my parents had an adjoining room (8779). We had our privacy please sign out the whole time so they just left a bag hanging on the door with the necessities for the next day (unless I happened to catch the mousekeeper, Marie was ours during the week, to get what we needed)

Main pool - visited it once, DS liked the quiet pool better, said the main pool was too busy and noisy. I kinda agree on that. The slide is okay, OKW's slide seems faster.

Food Court - we utilized this quite a few times. Wasn't too crowded the times we ate but I went there a couple of times to refill the mugs and it was packed.

Entertainment - caught Yee Haw Bob's show two different nights, he's a hoot, I can see why he is so popular.

Took the boat to DD one evening, had a little wait, but otherwise a nice ride on the river.

Room - Very comfortable, the only problem is that if you want the fridge to stay cold, you need to leave the door to the cabinet it is in open part way. I know that they put it in there for looks, but it doesn't make sense to have the keep the door open. My parents had to have theirs replaced, it was not keeping anything cold even with the door open. They said that it was working but when you shut the fridge door, you could tell that it wasn't running. Once they got a new one, everything was fine.

Pros:

location, food court, Yee Haw Bob in lounge

Cons:

fridge in cabinet, main pool activities to loud and long

We ate there twice the week of Memorial Day and loved it. We had originally visited in 2007 and made sure that we came here again for the dinner buffet. (I think it's the cheapest buffet on Disney)

If you would like a good down home cooking buffet, you need to visit the Fort Wilderness buffet for dinner. We ate there twice and for the money it is worth it and filling.

Pros:

Variety, cost

Cons:

none

DH and I ate here on a recent trip. My husband absolutely LOVED this restaurant. Let me also state that I absolutely hate sauerkraut, and am not huge on sausage, but I found that the buffet had a very good variety and I was very satisfied with everything I was able to choose from. I even got the ridiculously sized liter of beer while DH got the flight. Everything was excellent.

We sat with a family from Colorado. I was hesitant on the group seating, but if you know what it is coming into it, you should enjoy meeting some new people.
