The Disneyland Resort is gearing up for a HUGE summer, but our hype is leveled a bit thanks to some pretty significant closures.

Last month, several rides reopened after lengthy refurbishments (alongside the debut of some highly anticipated park changes), but it’s not all good news at “The Happiest Place on Earth”. There are some looming projects scheduled that will close attractions in May 2026, and these closures could affect your upcoming vacation plans. Here’s what you need to know…
This May, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure will have a combined 5 attractions closed at some point. They are as follows:
Disneyland Park
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters — Reopening TBA
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters closed on April 13th, and it will be out of commission all throughout May.

The interactive arcade shooter themed after Buzz Lightyear and Star Command does not have an official reopening date, and the Disneyland calendar currently shows it closed well into June.

Pirates of the Caribbean — Closed May 4th, 2026
Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean is getting a lengthy refurbishment starting May 4th.

A reopening date has yet to be announced, and the calendar currently shows it closed in June as well (this is subject to change). The attached Blue Bayou Restaurant will also be closed on the 4th, but is rescheduled to open on May 21st, 2026 — albeit with some modifications as construction continues on the ride.
Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island — Reopens May 8th, 2026
Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island closed in late April, but is opening soon on May 8th, 2026.

The island playground closes occasionally for brief tune-ups, but will be ready for pirates of all ages for the majority of May.

Disney California Adventure
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind — Reopening TBA
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is a small carnival-like ride themed after the Pixar franchise, tucked away in the back of Pixar Pier.

The ride closed in January and is still listed as being closed through May. We’ll let you know as soon as a reopening date is announced.
Silly Symphony Swings — Reopening TBA
Silly Symphony Swings closed on April 27th, 2026, and it may be a minute before it reopens.

This high-flying swing ride is still on Disneyland’s refurbishment calendar well into June, which means Disney has yet to announce a reopening date.
