Department of State Issues Worldwide Travel Warning for Americans

The Department of State has issued a worldwide travel warning for Americans. They have especially reconmended increase caution when visiting the Southwest Asian and North African region, also known as the Middle East.

It’s recommended that Americans follow the guidance in security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

There was a warning that periodic airspace closures can cause travel delays and that U.S. diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Southwest Asian and North African regions, have been targeted.

“Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world,” says the Department of State.

While no details have been shared, including whether these are direct threads, American travelers are urged to exercise extreme caution regardless of where they are traveling.

Americans can enroll at step.state.gov to receive the latest security alerts, and when planning travel, look up the latest travel advisories and detailed information at travel.state.gov/destination.
