NEWS: Over 200 Flight Delays and Cancellations Reported at Orlando Airport Today Due to Major Storm

While the winter weather has finally stopped falling in many states, that doesn’t mean its impacts are suddenly gone.

Many states have been left with thousands of residents without power, ice and snow piled high, and an overall travel warning due to unsafe conditions. While Florida itself didn’t get hit with tons of snow and freezing rain, flying has still been rough this weekend due to the travel issues at other airports. While the issues have improved so far today, they’re far from over, and these flight cancellations prove that.

We checked out FlightAware this morning and saw that over 100 flights have ALREADY been canceled at MCO Airport today — 124 to be exact. Delays are also up to 88, and may turn into cancellations later in the day. This is as of 9 AM EST, so the numbers are likely to grow.

Now, this is a big improvement from yesterday, when over 400 flights had been canceled at Orlando Airport. Over 10,000 flights were canceled on Sunday alone, making it the most in one day since the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Sunday around midday, over 1,800 flights had been canceled around the country for Monday, as officials knew travel wouldn’t be safe.

This winter storm stretched from Texas all the way up to Maine, and according to recent maps, the last bits of the storm are making their way through Florida now, in the form of rain, but the rest of it has made its way back out into the ocean. Therefore, airports all over the Eastern side of the United States have been affected, including but not limited to Dallas, New York City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. While the winter weather isn’t affecting Orlando itself, if flights aren’t able to make it from their starting airport TO Orlando due to weather, or airlines know it won’t be safe to land at the destination airport, it’s better and safer for all to cancel the flight.
