Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant will celebrate National Irish Coffee Day tomorrow, January 25th, with a special guest offer for the pub’s traditional Lost Irish Coffee: “You buy the coffee, and we buy the whiskey!” Get ready to celebrate, because the Raglan Road general manager, Rachael Conroy, is inviting everyone to this “delicious wake-up call.”

“True Irish coffee deserves this recognition,” said general manager Conroy. “It’s a great drink any time of day, and if whiskey and coffee each get their own national days, Irish coffee should have its day in the sun, too.”

This traditional Irish coffee promo gives both caffeine and whiskey fans something to come and enjoy. The celebration will also have live Irish music and dancing. The restaurant will be offering a finely-tuned mix of coffee, Lost Irish Whiskey, House-made Demerara sugar syrup, and cream. Can you think of a better way to start your morning?

So why the big celebration (other than the fact that coffee is that great)? Well, Irish coffee’s history goes all the way back to 1943, when an airline’s flying boat made a bumpy landing at the port town of Foynes in Co. Limerick. To help calm down the American tourists who disembarked, Chef Joe Sheridan offered them a coffee with whiskey and sugared cream. The drink was an immediate hit, and nine years later, the historic Buena Vista Café in San Francisco recreated the Irish coffee and built a fan base by showcasing the speedy spectacle of whipping up the beverage.

Coffee Day

For this year’s National Irish Coffee Day, the drinks will be whipped up by Buena Vista Café’s head bartender, Tony. Guests will see Tony behind one of several Raglan Road bars, and wheeling a cart through the pub to perform for guests. “We are thrilled to have Tony with us Sunday,” Conroy stated. “In Ireland, Irish coffee is a true staple, so we salute and celebrate this perfect libation with our special guest promotion. Alex Levine put it best when he said, ‘Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat.’ So remember: You buy the coffee, and the whiskey is on us.”
