Post-holiday delays are slamming into Orlando International Airport (MCO).

The day after Christmas is proving to be a chaotic one at Central Florida’s primary hub, as a mixture of record-breaking Holiday Season travel and winter weather conditions has led to a cacophony of cancellations and delays.
As of 11 AM, over 280 flights in and out of MCO have been delayed. However, passengers on those flights can consider themselves somewhat luckier than those on the 30+ flights that have been canceled. Given the 26th’s 2025 placement as a Friday between the Christmas Holiday and a weekend, these flight issues are messing with holiday travel of many, some heading home from holiday gatherings, and others squeezing in a post-Christmas vacation before the end of the year.

According to AAA, these delays have struck during a massively busy holiday travel season. The organization estimates that approximately 8.03 million people are expected to fly within the U.S. over the holidays, a 2.3% increase from 2024. Florida is among the top 3 domestic destinations for those travelers, along with Southern California and Hawaii, based on AAA’s booking data.
Things likely won’t improve over the upcoming weekend either, as United Airlines is expecting December 27th to be the airline’s most crowded day during their “busiest winter holiday season ever,” while American Airlines is planning for “four flights to depart each minute over its holiday period.”

For their part, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said it anticipates Sunday, December 28th, will be its busiest day, followed by Sunday, December 27th, and Monday, December 29th, as travelers from Christmas trips head out for New Year’s.

As the already record-breaking Holiday travel season in the U.S. is beset by bad weather across the country, MCO is seeing a rash of delays and cancellations on the day after Christmas. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on travel conditions in the Orlando area.
