6 Things Flight Attendants Wish You’d Stop Doing When Flying to Disney World

Flying can be stressful. Between packing, getting to the airport, moving through TSA, and boarding, travelers can’t be blamed for being a little bit frazzled. Combine that with the anticipation leading up to a Disney World trip, and you can get lots of nervous energy before even boarding your flight!

For flight attendants, it can be a bit stressful being tasked to keep all their passengers safe and calm on the way to Orlando. To help make your travel experience easier for both you and the flight attendants on your flight, there are six things that flight attendants wish you would stop doing on your flight to Disney World

Passengers making their way to the Orlando area for Walt Disney World are likely flying Orlando International Airport (MCO) or Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB).  It’s on flights through these airports that flight attendants must deal with vacationers heading to the Walt Disney World resort.

Obey the Rules Around Chargers and Lithium-Ion Batteries

In response to growing concerns and several frightening incidents, about lithium-ion batteries — like those found in portable phone chargers– the FAA has changed the rules regarding their use on planes.

According to the new regulations, non-housed lithium-ion batteries like phone-charging can NOT be stored in checked luggage, and can only be carried in carry-on bags. The FAA states, “Spare (uninstalled) lithium ion and lithium metal batteries, including power banks and cell phone battery charging cases, must be carried in carry-on baggage only. When a carry-on bag is checked at the gate or at planeside, all spare lithium batteries and power banks must be removed from the bag and kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin. The battery terminals must be protected from short circuit. This covers spare lithium metal and spare rechargeable lithium ion batteries for personal electronics such as cameras, cell phones, laptop computers, tablets, watches, calculators, etc. This also includes external battery chargers (portable rechargers) containing a lithium ion battery.”

Stop Bringing Too Many Bags on Board

Depending on which airline you fly, there are different bag restrictions. In most cases, you will be allowed one carry-on and one personal item. To help make the boarding process smoother and to avoid having to repack, make sure to stick to your bag allotment

The same goes for on the way home; we know that you will probably want to purchase souvenirs to remember your time at Disney World. We have all been guilty of carrying the iconic blue plastic Disney bag on our flight home, but make sure your souvenirs will fit within your bag allotment! We like to carry an empty duffel bag or backpack with us in the event our souvenirs don’t fit in the bags that we brought with us. Just once again, make sure you stay within your carry-on allotment or plan to check a bag.

Stop Asking to Switch Seats

If you want to keep your whole party together, it is best to make sure your seats are booked together at the time of booking. Although many airlines have family seating policies and will try their best to keep families together, sometimes it does not work out. Planning to sit together ahead of time can make flying less stressful, as you will not have to ask to switch seats or ask a flight attendant to find people who are willing to switch.

It is also important that you sit in your assigned seat. While there has been a trend of people hoping for the best and sitting in a better seat than the one they were assigned, this could delay the boarding process and make it harder for flight attendants to guide everyone to their correct seat.

Speaking of assigned seats, be sure to be aware of your airline of choice’s seating policy. For example, Southwest Airlines is ending its longtime open-seating policy. Instead, the company is transitioning to a policy to more traditional assigned seating layout, January 27th, 2026.

According to the company, “For your comfort, we’re introducing seat options that allow you to choose the experience you prefer. This includes options to select where you want to sit and upgrade to an Extra Legroom seat, giving you more choices when you travel with us. New seat choices and assigned seating now bookable for travel January 27, 2026 and beyond.”

Stop Talking During the Safety Demonstration

It is essential to pay attention during the safety demonstration, regardless of whether it is your first or 100th time flying. Not only is it nice to be respectful to the flight attendants, but each plane has different safety features, so it is important to listen up because knowing the proper procedures for the aircraft you’re flying on may quite literally save your life.

Stop Playing Your Devices Out Loud

Headphones exist for a reason. They have become a travel essential in recent years, as the vast majority of flyers plan to watch movies or listen to music on devices like smartphones and laptops.  That said, while your taste in music, streaming shows, or podcasts is probably great, other passengers don’t want to hear it, and flight attendants don’t want to have to deal with noise complaints.

Stop Taking Off Your Shoes

We know that flights can be long, and you want to be comfortable, but as a courtesy to flight attendants and fellow passengers, please keep your shoes on at all times.

Bring comfortable shoes!

Also, while on the subject of shoes, it’s best to wear closed-toed shoes as well as socks for safety while flying, not only for the comfort of others but also on the off-chance that you find yourself in a situation that requires evacuation.
