Airports are notoriously strict with their security rules, and sometimes it’s difficult to prepare in advance.

Sometimes, airports have entirely different security rules, so you may take things out of your bag at one airport, then fly into another where they tell you to do the opposite. However, if you’ve ever flown through THIS airport, you’ve likely experienced just how strict security can be with their rules about liquids. Now, we’re here to tell you that things seem to have CHANGED!
For as long as we can remember, London Heathrow Airport has had the strictest rules when it comes to liquids in your bags. In the past, liquids had to be sorted into a special bag, removed from your bag, and be fully visible during the security screening. But when we visited the airport recently, we saw a sign that indicated a major security change that will make things a LOT easier.

Now, with new technology that’s been added at the security checkpoint, you won’t have take anything out of your bags (yep, that includes any liquids AND electronics), and if you have a clear water bottle (including plastic ones) that’s under 2 liters, you don’t have to empty it. Read the sign carefully — there are some big rule changes here!

It was clear that this technology was VERY new, because the security personnel were getting used to it during our visit. This was also in the international terminal of the airport, so it’s possible the technology is ONLY live in this terminal, and may not be up and running in the domestic terminals just yet.

It’s possible we could see this technology expand to other airports in the coming months or years, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated! Looking for more travel news? Check out our posts below!
