The U.S. Department of State has issued a worldwide travel warning for U.S. citizens. Due to the conflict between Israel and Iran, the U.S. Department of State warns of disruptions in travel, closure of airspace across the Middle East, and the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad.

The Department of State is urging U.S. citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution. Be sure to pay close attention to Travel Advisories, country information, and recent security alerts issued by the Department of State.
The U.S. Department of State issues advisories to keep U.S. citizens safe when traveling abroad. The Worldwide Caution Alert was issued on June 22nd, 2025, and doesn’t warn of a specific country but rather urges U.S. citizens to use increased caution when traveling abroad.

The Department of State also issues travel advisories for specific countries. These advisories are reviewed regularly and updated when conditions change. They are assigned a level from 1 to 4. You can view these travel advisories anytime on the Department of State’s website to make the most informed decision when deciding where to travel. The travel advisory levels indicate the following:
Level 1 – Exercise normal precautions: This is the lowest advisory level for safety and security risks. There is some risk in any international travel, and conditions in other countries may differ from those in the United States.
Level 2 – Exercise increased caution: Be aware of increased risks to safety and security. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory.
Level 3 – Reconsider travel: Reconsider your travel to the destination due to serious risks to safety and security. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory.
Level 4 – Do not travel: This is the highest advisory level due to life-threatening risks. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory. The U.S. government may have very limited or no ability to help, including during an emergency. We advise that U.S. citizens do not travel to the country, or to leave as soon as it is safe to do so.

The recent Worldwide Caution is a general travel advisory for U.S. citizens traveling abroad, but you can also view advisories for specific countries. Some of the recent travel advisories include a Level 4 advisory for Lebanon, Iran, Israel, West Bank, and Gaza, as well as Level 2 advisories for Mozambique, India, and the Dominican Republic. These are updated as needed and you can always check the Department of State’s website for the most up to date information.

If you are planning on trip abroad, it is always a good idea to check for travel advisories issued by the Department of State. As well, when you are traveling make sure you are being cautious and remaining alert. The State Department has information about each country, so it is also a good idea to read through that before your trip.
