Frozen fans, this is the latest Disney animation news you’ve been waiting for…kinda.

We’ve already gotten a few upcoming films teased at the recent Annecy Animation Festival, where Disney and Pixar gave us our first look at Toy Story 5 and other upcoming projects. But that wasn’t the only Disney film that folks were buzzing about during the festival. We also had a few more details released about the upcoming Frozen 3 film directly from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ CCO himself!
At the recent 2025 Annecy Animation Festival, Collider had the opportunity to corner one of Disney’s executives working on the upcoming Frozen film in the franchise. Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios and also the writer-director of hits like Zootopia and Encanto, had a very careful approach to the tidbits of information he was able to give about Frozen 3 and its details.

“We have the luxury of being able to look at movies many times, so looking at Frozen 3 as, ‘Can we tell the very best story we can with that and not worry about where we’re going to split into that next story,’ is sort of important. One thing at a time is, to me, the best way to approach it.”
When asked of what might be in the works for Frozen 3‘s storyline and what fans of the films might anticipate of the upcoming film, Bush stated that he felt a “pressure and a responsibility to ensure that every film the studio makes reaches a quality threshold”, to ensure every detail was as perfect as it could be.

Frozen 3 is set for theatrical release in 2027; however, now that Frozen 4 has already been announced, it has left many fans wondering if we could see a carryover in Frozen 3’s story to be finished in Frozen 4. While Bush couldn’t confirm much of the details in either upcoming film, he did have immense praise for the work being done currently on Frozen 3. He added, “When people see it, I think returning to that world with those characters, the entertainment value of watching them go on a new journey, but that feels very organic to the story they’ve already been on, is fantastic.”

Ok, so we’re not getting any clear-cut answers to whether Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 will be a two-part storyline, so for now we’ll consider that matter tabled until Disney’s ready to release a few more details. However, the storyline isn’t the only thing ruminating within our minds about these upcoming Frozen installments.

We’re also wondering if Disney’s chosen a new earworm song to debut with Frozen 3. When pressed for more details about the new breakout song to join the ranks of Frozen’s “Let It Go” and Frozen 2’s “Into The Unknown” anthems, Bush remained rather coy, but did provide some insight as to what goes into song selection for these massive hits. “The song is always deeply tied to what the character’s story is going to be and what those dynamics are. I’d say I have an idea of what that’s going to be. That’s very exciting. I think we’ll surprise people in the best way. I guess that’s as much as I can say about that.”

So it seems we may have our excitement building in all the right places surrounding more details to come for future Frozen films. While we still have a lot to learn about Frozen 3 and Frozen 4, you know we’ll be hanging on every update until each of the films debut to theaters and streaming platforms.
We’ll continue to follow up about future Frozen 3 updates so be sure to stay tuned with us for all the latest in Disney news and more!
