COVID-19 has continued to lead to evolving travel restrictions and guidelines over the past two years.

International travel to the United States eased in June when international visitors were no longer required to provide a negative COVID-19 test, but Canada continued to enact COVID-19 mandates for travelers. Soon, however, all COVID-19 mandates are changing in Canada.
According to WESH2, on October 1st, the Canadian government will lift all COVID-19 mandates, including mask requirements as well as requiring proof of vaccination or testing for travelers. Canada’s Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra said, “We are able to do this because tens of millions of Canadians rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated.”

As of October 1st, Canada will not require visitors to show proof of vaccination or testing, and masks will no longer be required on transportation methods such as planes or trains. Random COVID-19 testing at airports is also ending.
For cruises, passengers will not be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test before boarding, although there will be guidelines for both passengers and crew.

According to the Canadian government, the decision to lift the COVID-19 mandate was due to lower case, hospitalization, and death rates, and the wider availability of vaccines, boosters, tests, and treatments.

If you’re traveling soon, make sure you check your destination country’s COVID-19 requirements, in case you need to prepare beforehand.
