And for those traveling internationally, we’ve seen everything from testing and vaccination requirements to closed borders. As COVID-19 case numbers begin to declines, we’re starting to see some places relax their health and safety measures, and today, the Canadian government made a big announcement.

The Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos announced today that the country would be easing up on testing requirements for international travel. Beginning February 28th, 2022, travelers arriving in Canada from any country who are fully vaccinated will be randomly selected for arrival testing. Currently (and until February 28th), all travelers are required to provide a negative molecular test within 72 hours of their arrival.

With these new random tests, travelers who are selected to test will also no longer be required to quarantine while awaiting their results. Children under 12 years old who are traveling with fully vaccinated adults will still be exempt from quarantine. However, unvaccinated travelers will still be required to test upon arrival, on day 8, and quarantine for 14 days.

These changes come after “Recent data indicates that the latest wave of COVID-19 driven by the Omicron variant has passed its peak in Canada,” according to the Government of Canada website. The country plans to begin its “transition away from the crisis phase” of dealing with COVID-19 and instead work towards long-term solutions to dealing with the disease.
